Everyone is different, and departing from this premise I can adapt to anyone because I like to listen in order to understand other people situations. My experience of more than 25 years in the field helps me to be more sensitive to the needs of my clients. I'm here to help so feel free to call and ask about my services. I'll be more than happy to give you more information regarding the modality of the therapy, and any other questions you might have. (Espanol: Es mi primer idioma y me siento muy comodo hablando espanol. Si desea un terapeuta en este idioma no dude en llamarme.)

With compassion, insight and acceptance, I can help you explore the issues which prevent you from success in your personal and professional relationships. I believe that we all possess much of the knowledge needed to answer life's questions; however, as with all things, we sometimes simply forget where to look. I see my work primarily as a guide, helping my clients find their own answers and their own happiness.I view therapy as a way to gain self awareness in order to understand one's pattern of relating to others and dealing with life's challenges.

Women and men who have experienced trauma in any way are the clients I work with most and enjoy helping. I want to help them release some of the pain and tension their bodies hold. I would like to honor where they have been and where they would like to be. I know that living with pain and grief is difficult and I would like to help people heal from things without losing the most precious parts of themselves.

I am a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Therapist who is also licensed as a Professional Counselor (Mental Health Service Provider) and as a Marital and Family Therapist. I have worked with diverse populations of individuals, couples and families for 30 years--as an executive director and therapist in medical settings, in two pastoral counseling centers, and now in an independent practice. With individuals I seek to understand barriers to healthy intentions, the failures one feels, and I become an active ally to change one's unhappy direction..

"I provide a safe, warm, nonjudgmental environment that embraces change. I provide an empathic and supportive approach which integrates psychodynamic and psychoanalytic techniques in order to help clients not only reduce symptoms, but to also explore and understand the unmet needs that have driven the behavior. I help clients build upon their strengths to help empower them. Clients need to understand that they are not having a breakdown, but a break through. The symptoms your are experiencing are normal based on a abnormal experiences. Through assessments and sessions I create a specialized treatment plan.

Imani Behavioral Health was started in May of 2018 as a way to serve the community with a multicultural team of professionals providing quality services through a multitude of therapeutic specialties. As the company grew and clientele increased; we began to realize the difficulty of finding a mental health agency that provides quality services to accommodate everyone’s various needs. Due to the growing needs of the community; we now have three offices with two in Clarksville (933 Tracy Lane suite D & 1725 Wilma Rudolph Suite 1) and one in Nashville (404 BNA Dr. Suite 200)!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
