I am able to treat trauma through Cognitive Processing.
I enjoy working with a variety of different people. I appreciate all the complexities of being human. Through a trusting and compassionate relationship there can be healing from many of life’s problems from childhood sexual abuse to recreating life after a divorce to recovering from an affair. Many of my clients both couples and individuals state their relationships and their life is better after therapy. They appreciate the time to pause and reflect. Sometimes they want to make changes or continue what is working.

I use attachments, core needs, cognitive beliefs, and psycho-education to help clients have healthy relational dynamics, overcome obstacles or life challenges, and be the best version of themselves.
I believe we are created for relationships, which is why having healthy relational dynamics among family, friends, coworkers, or other individuals is crucial to our well being. There are many obstacles we face in our daily lives. Some situations we can easily navigate, while others can be more challenging and cause us to question ourselves and our ability to persevere and overcome. Life is hard and we are not meant to do it alone. It is important to know that you are not alone in your situation and that there IS help and support for you.

I use client centered therapy, art therapy, play therapy, emotional identification and CBT as well as determining different methods that work for each client.
Sometimes we come to a time in our life when we can use some guidance. I love working with people to help them along their way. We can explore what works for you and what doesn't. Together we can figure out where you want to go from here and how to get there. I've helped many adults and youth with personal growth as they navigated through life stressors and transitions.

I am trained in EMDR (trauma-therapy) and use a lot of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles in many of my sessions to help clients achieve their goals.
Hey! I'm Christina. I'm proud of you for taking this step toward seeking counseling. It's very hard to be vulnerable, especially in today's world. Counseling is a place to be seen, known, and feel safe. A place where we can talk through all of the hard and difficult things in your life and work towards healing. A place to figure out what's going well and how to build on those strengths.

I use TF-CBT and Forward facing trauma therapy to help decrease symptoms in the present.
The biggest reason many don't seek counseling is the fear of reliving the past. Forward facing trauma therapy proves you don't always have to go back to move forward. There is a different way. There is a better way. We start with the symptoms of the present. Then look at how trauma affects the brain and changes how we, think, feel, and behave here in the present. Learning how to fix and reset the brain while decreasing symptoms is our goal at Sessions of Serenity. Done at your pace, in a way that helps restore safety, creates calm and empowers the client. Your past does not have to continue robbing you of your future.

Welcome! Using a trauma-focused approach, I currently offer art therapy and talk therapy at Carpe Artista with Ellie Mental Health. I love working with adolescents and teens in ages ranging from 8 to 18, but that does not mean I do not have experience working with adults! I have previous experience in an adult psych rehab, a young adult/adult substance recovery center, a partial hospitalization, and most recently a high school with students and families. I have worked with a wide variety of diagnoses. My passion is to lead clients in finding their voice for themselves and hopefully falling in love with something new and creative.

Understanding my clients' needs/goals is fundamental to the therapeutic alliance and facilitating growth/well-being. Clients seek therapy for many reasons, each rooted in unique experiences, challenges, and aspirations. Through empathetic listening, reflective inquiry, and collaborative exploration, I strive to truly understand my client. At the core for many clients' is a yearning for understanding and validation. They seek a safe space to unravel thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgment or dismissal. In the midst of life's complexities, the therapeutic relationship serves as a refuge to be seen and heard.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
