I enjoy helping clients reduce Depression/ Anxiety as well as work through Grief/Loss and Trauma.
Although we often come to therapy with a problem, we also come to be heard and understood, to feel like we matter, and to learn self-compassion. Do you feel overly nervous at times and held back from things you want to do or goals you would like to accomplish? Find yourself over-estimating the odds of something "wrong" possibly happening or assuming worst-case scenario outcomes? There are methods that can be learned to decrease intensity, frequency, and duration of anxiety episodes. I look forward to helping you develop calming skills and replace unhelpful thought patterns with less anxiety producing ones.

My training and experience assist couples and individuals in renewing their lives and help them move beyond anxiety, grief, depression, trauma and drug/alcohol struggles during our time together.
Greetings! My name is Kay C Free, and I am here to help you on your journey to wellness. Life on life's terms can be challenging at best. Experiencing life's hardships, whether current or past, grief, anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma or drug/alcohol struggles, can only add to those challenges. I believe, however, that everyone has the capacity to move beyond those challenges and experience strong, healthy lives and relationships! Taking the first step toward seeking help is often the hardest part of the journey but seeking in itself shows inner strength and the capacity for resilience.

My ideal client would be an adolescent, family, or young adult seeking to learn more about natural, healthy, positive ways to overcome the struggles of life. Needs would include finding more effective ways of communicating feelings to others, finding understanding ways to approach conflict, and finding positive ways to cope with difficulties. The client would want to work on changing unhealthy/ineffective behavior patterns and begin a process of change.

Life can be difficult and confusing. I am here to help you sort through the pain to find hope and healing for the days ahead. The hurt can be deep, going back to earliest memories or coming from present hardships. Counseling you is about establishing a safe place, a loving environment of grace. My tools come from my training and from 33 years of experience, but each person is exquisitely unique, so no therapeutic relationship is the same as any other. It is an honor and privilege to share deeply in your life and the lives of your family. At present, because of a recent move to another state, I am connecting only online or by cell.

Over the years Anne has worked with a multitude of issues including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, personality challenges, crisis prevention, anger management, and relationship challenges.
For over 17 years Anne has had the privilege of providing therapy/coaching services to children, adolescents, and adults who have been negatively impacted by varying life circumstances. Anne is passionate about helping clients understand that a diagnosis does not define who they are, but only identifies the patterns they are struggling with. Anne believes "everyone has a story in which each chapter can create different needs and challenges". She adds, "Therapy/Coaching provides a safe and confidential space to process and learn new coping strategies or to challenge the way we look at those challenges and needs".

Life isn’t always easy - in fact, sometimes it is downright painful, evil, and overwhelming. It is good to have people to lean into during these difficult times. And sometimes, it is good to reach out to a professional to help along the way. I seek to be that type of helper. Whether you struggle with anxiety or depression, identity distress or relationship problems, "Big T" trauma or "little t" trauma... whatever your situation - I hope you have hope for a better tomorrow. And if I can walk with you for a time along the way, please let me know.

Many people seeking therapy are simply sensitive souls in need of new or different ways of protecting themselves in a world which does not always honor the intuitive, sensitive, and creative self. I am passionate about helping individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and obsessional thinking that I believe often results from highly sensitive creative individuals lacking an outlet for expressing and/or understanding themselves.

Whether it be anxiety, depression, Infant loss, grief and loss, Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, body dysmorphia, or anything in between.
I once read a social media post that said," If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, I will sit with you in the dark." Life happens and not always in a positive way. Even good days can be stressful. I do not promise to "fix you," but I do promise to help you heal and get back to life as it was meant to be. Some days, you don't feel like talking, that is okay, we can sit and do whatever you need. Everyone heals differently. What is important is that you heal your way and know you are not alone. It is important to love yourself so that others can also love you.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
