Through a strength-based, nonjudgmental, client-centered, and culturally informed approach, I aid in reprocessing trauma, exploring how our past and societal systems inform our present, and building grounding skills for authentic healing.
I work with individuals who are navigating anxiety, depression, cultural identity exploration, and trauma. Maybe you are emotionally numb, need someone to listen, are terrified of discussing painful experiences, or don't have the right words to articulate how you are feeling. You are not alone. Seeking external help and sharing your most vulnerable thoughts, feelings, and experiences is highly intimate and courageous, let alone with an initial stranger. I have immense respect for those taking this step, and I am humbled to be a part of your mental health journey.

Neurodiversity-affirming and trauma informed care at Rising Winds Counseling goes beyond the therapeutic relationship to encompass our advocacy efforts, treatment planning, telehealth option, and even our office space (soft lighting and other sensory considerations). We acknowledge that there has been a history of ableism within the mental health treatment that has created some fears related to seeking therapy which is why we rely on strength based approaches, research that is specific to neurodiverse individuals, and a therapeutic approach that empowers you to both achieve your goals and honor the unique aspects of yourself.

If you have ever experienced anxiety, depression, or trauma it can be extremely difficult to talk about. Therapy is hard at times and will give people anxiety for just simply showing up. However, you are not alone with these feelings. As humans we experience pain and mental health struggles almost daily. But there is always a way through it. If you find the root of the problem and are willing to overcome it. Let's find your goals together and give you the tools to succeed in whatever life may bring you.

I emphasize a strength-based approach, using practical skill-building and positive solutions for growth and change.
Why Strength to Strength Counseling? In my philosophy of the therapy process, people already have many strengths and resources when they come into the counseling office for the first time. Stress and strain, loss and grief, trauma, sudden life-changes, relationship difficulties, coping challenges, and mental health issues can lead individuals and relationships to points of internal distress and external behaviors that can be disruptive, distressing and concerning to themselves and those around them. As a result, individual happiness, relationships, family life, work, and school performance may suffer.

The transition into parenthood is more complex than we could ever imagine. We are often not prepared for the variety of challenges we could face – fertility issues, pregnancy/infant loss, postpartum depression/anxiety, traumatic birth, or trouble feeling connected to a new baby. For others, growing up in a tumultuous home can cause them to question if they are “cut out” for parenting or childhood wounds suddenly surface after the birth of a new child. As kids age, parenting can become challenging in ways not expected and support can be immensely helpful. Caregiver burnout is real and it can happen at any stage in parenting.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
