Wherever you are in this season - whether navigating preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, parenting, infertility, or loss - I want to help you rebuild your village.
It takes a village to raise a child... or at least, that's what they say. And yet, here you are somewhere on your parenthood journey, perhaps feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or unsupported, and wondering where your village is. Maybe you feel alone in the thoughts that you struggle with or the burdens you carry. Maybe you experience guilt or shame that your story doesn't look as you'd thought it would. Maybe you feel that your cup is completely empty. You've already taken a huge first step in considering counseling. You don't need to walk this alone and deserve so much more than to feel that way.

The transition into parenthood is more complex than we could ever imagine. We are often not prepared for the variety of challenges we could face – fertility issues, pregnancy/infant loss, postpartum depression/anxiety, traumatic birth, or trouble feeling connected to a new baby. For others, growing up in a tumultuous home can cause them to question if they are “cut out” for parenting or childhood wounds suddenly surface after the birth of a new child. As kids age, parenting can become challenging in ways not expected and support can be immensely helpful. Caregiver burnout is real and it can happen at any stage in parenting.

I have specialized training in the treatment of OCD, anxiety, and perinatal mental health and am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider (PMH-C).
Sometimes difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences take us away from the life we want to live. It may not seem clear how therapy can help. I provide a non-judgmental and secure space where, together, we can clarify your goals and develop a treatment plan. My approach to therapy is grounded in evidence-based clinical practices. Combining behavioral and mindfulness-based modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention, I help clients develop insight and take action in order to live engaged, meaningful lives.

Finding a therapist can be challenging, and I consider it an honor to sit with people as they share themselves and their lives. My specialty is working with people experiencing infertility and other perinatal and postnatal issues. The process of becoming pregnant, having a baby, and adjusting to parenthood is not always an easy one and often filled with difficulty and heartbreak. People can experience a roller coaster of emotions including sadness, anger, shame, anxiety, etc. My hope is to help people gain understanding and peace no matter where they are in their reproductive story.

I have unique experience supporting people who are finding it difficult to care for themselves while they take care of others. This includes helping professionals experiencing secondary trauma exposure and burnout, family members caring for those with serious forms of mental or physical illness, and parents managing life changes such as pregnancy, birth and child-rearing. I'm experienced in treating mood and disorders, and psychotic disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings but I believe that treatment should be directed by your goals and strengths rather that just a diagnosis.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
