You are here because you've realized that life as it is isn't working for you. I help with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, cultural challenges and more. I prioritize creating a safe space where people feel understood, valued, and supported in exploring and being their authentic selves, and I serve as a non-judgmental fellow human who can walk beside you (even when feelings are icky). My therapy style is warm and collaborative, with a sprinkle of humor. It's easy to feel overwhelmed because you don't know where to start. I can shed light on strengths that may be hard for you to see and help you get moving towards change.

Welcome to the next step! The step that follows acknowledging that you cannot do this alone. Grief, trauma, and racial/ethnic identity issues are challenging to navigate. Whether this is your first time or not, I commend you for your willingness to be vulnerable and your readiness to work toward growth and change. No matter if you believe the issue is a "quick fix", so complex that you struggle to put it into words, or if you just feel that something is not sitting well within you and making you uneasy in your skin, I am here for you.

What is your story? The question seems simple, but it isn’t. Your story is comprised of your life’s experiences from your perspective. Our stories contain themes of joy, excitement love, life and heartbreak, fear, anger and loss. With the demands of daily life such as career or relationships, it can be difficult to engage in being the author of your story. Who is narrating your story? Are negative thoughts dictating your self-image? Is your anxiety controlling your narrative? Or is your sadness causing you to stare at a blank page? Ultimately, everyone deserves a better story.

I work with clients wanting to heal from all kinds of painful experiences and challenges in their lives. Often what brings someone into therapy, their current struggles, are symptoms of an underlying unresolved experience which has thrown life out of balance. Anxiety and depression, for example, frequently are a pattern of being stuck in a state of imbalance, following a significant loss, heartbreak or trauma. The goal of therapy is to restore the natural integrity and balance within clients, empowering them to lead creative and fulfilling lives.

From personal experience, I know that finding the right therapist can take time and energy - two things that often feel far away when you're navigating overwhelming burnout, grief, and/or life changes. Or perhaps asking for help feels incredibly foreign and you're the one who's used to having it together... though that's a testament to your strength, I'm here to tell you that you don't have to shoulder that burden alone. It is my hope that the therapeutic relationship can serve as a place where your body, mind, and spirit can rest, reattune, and find renewed strength for the journey ahead.

I especially love working with young adults as they move through transition, loss, and positive change.
Welcome to Counseling by Camryn! I am passionate about helping others make sense of their experiences, decisions, and who they are becoming. Sometimes the unexpected happens and can knock us down. It's important to work through these events instead of pushing them down under. They always have a way of resurfacing in the least helpful ways and at the most inconvenient times. Together, we can sort these buried items and find a place where they can be seen, but not interfere with the path that leads us to where we desire to be.

A few things I’m really good at helping people with are identifying and reframing negative thoughts, anxiety, living with cancer, grief + loss, and death + dying.
I am a relational therapist who enjoys working with highly anxious people who want to learn how to cope with intrusive thoughts and live a more fulfilling life. Having worked in a cancer treatment center, I also enjoy working with those living with cancer and with those who love someone living with cancer. I help you navigate experiences of grief and loss, as well as practice healthy ways of reframing and changing thoughts that no longer serve you and the life you want to live.

Do you feel like no one wants you to talk about your grief? Like they want you to “get over it” or “look on the brightside”? Or maybe you need support but don’t feel like you can burden others with the request? When others don’t know how to talk about or handle our grief, it can be isolating and lonely. The combination of emotions we feel at these times can be downright confusing. I want you to know this feeling won’t last forever. Whether you’re new to grief or feel stuck in it, whether you have lost a loved one or are grieving the loss of an anticipated life, I want to help you on your journey back to you.

Life assures us struggle, hardships, grief, and loss, but these things don't have to be the end of our story. They can be our call to action. I want to help you develop the tools you need to create a rich, full, and healthy life of your own design. One where you not only meet your goals but enjoy the process. A diagnosis, a major life change, an experience of abuse or trauma, an identity outside the social norms we find ourselves in; these are not our limitations, they're just aspects of our starting point.

My desire is to create safe, supportive space to help you feel comfortable and fully supported in the work that you would like to do. I enjoy assisting with transitions through all kinds of life circumstances - grief and loss, relationship issues, career changes and soul questions or crises, to name a few. I welcome working with you to help you release what is not working in your life and to help you make room for the "new" -- for transformation, deep peace and, most of all, for joy.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
