I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, and Somatic Experiencing, as well as DBT skills trained.
Asking for help is sometimes difficult, and also powerful. Daily struggles with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, intrusive thoughts can become overwhelming. Complex trauma, substance use, eating disorders, unhealthy relationships, are among a few that can also keep us from our authentic self. In order to survive through all of this and keep going, it is common to adapt in ways that end up no longer working. We need help. That help comes from recognizing the gifts we have in ourselves and getting the gifts of others. My gift is to help others with aligning the head and the heart while healing to recognize authentic self.

I also incorporate techniques from DBT, attachment theory and family systems.
Many of my clients came to therapy because they didn't feel confident, safe, or at peace in themselves, how they connect with others, or how they fit in the world. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, and identity issues. These areas are tied to the core of who you are and how you interact in the world. At times, it may be difficult to move forward and you may feel stuck. You may feel disconnected, unfulfilled, or overwhelmed. It may affect relationships, work, and your sense of self. It can be difficult to find your way back to yourself and the life you want to build. I am here to help navigate that journey.

Through skills of motivational interviewing, CBT, DBT, and ACT, we will work together to decide the best path forward and how you define success.
“I dream of never being called resilient again”. Though resilience is a cornerstone of social work practice, my dream is of a life that doesn’t require it as a prerequisite of Black personhood, but here we are. Sometime’s, “life be lifing” and that’s okay! My goal is to help you navigate those moments. Behavior is a form for communication and my goal is to help you tell your story in a way that is authentic and impactful. Things can be hard and sometimes, overwhelming. Let me help you navigate those challenges in a way that empowers you to have confidence in your decision making and build trust in your abilities.

I use a variety of modalities such as CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, and EFT in my practice.
Navigating life’s inherent difficulties can be challenging. Sometimes therapy can help. From confronting issues such as loss/grief, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal problems, to facing significant life decisions or struggling with marital/relationship concerns, many factors can prevent any of us from engaging in our lives more fully. Whether you are new to therapy or you're returning to work through a new or lingering issue, creating a safe place to explore, understand, and respond to your concerns is crucial. Utilizing warmth and transparency, I hope to cultivate a trusting partnership with you.

My biggest hope is that you find healing and rest through working with me, and while I strive to meet you where you’re at and provide counseling based upon that, I use an attachment based approach along with EFT, ERP, ACT, and DBT modalities.
It’s taken me a long time to write this because I desperately wanted my bio to communicate my heart for counseling, people, and the work that I do, but I also feel that words fall short when you’re trying to communicate something so intimate. First of all, you are brave for taking a step toward deeper healing, and I am honored that you might consider me as a support alongside you in your journey. Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or your 10th time, I hope to encourage and help empower you in your fight to become who you want to be. Whatever next step you decide to take, I hope the best for you.

Do you wish you had the confidence to live your life the way you want? Maybe you haven’t had the support or guidance you’ve needed. With support, you can explore what’s important to you, and discover what you really want. And once you know that, you can create a more meaningful future.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
