It is one of the greatest honors of my life to walk beside my clients through sorrow, anxiety, joy – all the experiences inherent in being human. I seek to aid clients in recognizing their own strengths as well as assist them in developing new coping skills to meet life’s challenges. As a therapist, I aim to greet every client, every session with non-judgment, radical acceptance, and a genuine interest in their wellbeing.

My name is Chelsi Williamson and I specialize in children and families. I am trained in EMDR for trauma resolution. I love working with family systems: be it mothers, fathers, couples, children, teens, etc. I see things through a physiologically based trauma lens with a deep understanding of how trauma gets stored in the physical body. It is a passion of mine to help all impacted individuals release the burden of carried trauma, particularly inter-generational trauma. I love working with women trying to show up for family and change pervasive patterns.

Prior to beginning clinical practice, I taught high school students in Metro Nashville where I was fortunate to learn from the resiliency of young people. This invaluable time eventually lead me to pursuing counseling. My clinical experience has primarily been within community centers serving diverse populations, which has informed my perspective as a culturally-competent, dynamic practitioner. Areas of clinical focus are academic issues, addiction, anxiety, codependency, depression, LGBTQ+ identities, life transitions, PTSD, and trauma.

Growing up in rural Tennessee, I have seen and experienced many of the issues that our communities face and have focused my career on helping people work through those everyday problems. Potential clients for me may be experiencing symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, or Burnout. A history of Trauma or Substance Use may have you feeling stuck in the mud, or perhaps there are pieces of your identity such as ADHD, Autism, Spiritual, or Gender/Sexual identity that have posed their own set of challenges in feeling accepted in the world. Whatever you may be experiencing, it’s important to remember: you are worth the effort to create change.

Thoreau said "There are a thousand hacking at the branches to every one striking at the root." In therapy, I believe our most valuable work is striking at the root of issues rather than hacking merely at the many branches/symptoms of the root. This latter approach often leads to resolving one manifestation of a problem only to experience new manifestations down the road. Whether the symptoms are anxiety, depression, addictions, or maladaptive relationships, it is worthwhile to examine the deeper sources of our pain. One of my primary roles will be to provide a steadfast ground of compassion, patience, and truth for your work.

My interest in counseling was first awakened by the Nietzsche quote, “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” Moving from China to the U.S., alone at age 18, I experienced tremendous difficulty with the transition. I began to experience significant social anxiety and felt separated not only from my home country, but also from the truest version of myself. Through therapy and self-reflection, as well as a focus on my "why" for moving, I found my way back to myself and to a more fulfilling life. This experience eventually led to a passion for helping others overcome difficulties and find a sense of purpose in their lives.

It is there where we come to know our worth & purpose in the world and where we experience true freedom.

I am no different than you. I too have grieved and felt lost and struggled at times. I too have sought compassionate presence when I needed it most. And that's what gives me the ability to connect with my clients. I truly believe that we are all in this together. There are many helpful treatment approaches which I and other therapists utilize, but ultimately I have seen healing and growth take place in the context of therapeutic relationship and presence. That is what I am committed to bringing to those I serve.

I have a passion for counseling women and girls, preteens through adulthood, while they discover their identities and develop their voices. Throughout my professional experiences in treatment centers, private schools, and private practice, I've worked exclusively with women and girls as they tackle a variety of mental health challenges and life transitions. It is truly a gift to be a part of enriching the lives of women, girls, and those that are touched by them. To me, there is nothing more exciting than watching someone evolve into the best version of themselves!

Who is this guy? Hello and welcome ! Here's my story: My name is Mark. I'm gonna go ahead and tear down some walls. I have ADHD. I am gay and also a survivor of gay reparative therapy and religious trauma. I'm an LCSW with 13 years experience working with adults and children in acute psychiatric care settings including psychiatric hospitals, emergency rooms, and intensive residential programs for adults. The latter half of my career, I have honed in on providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for adults in individual settings. I enjoy accompanying my clients on their unique journey to empowerment.
