Poet Geoffrey Chaucer wrote, "time heals all wounds." You're probably searching this site because you have discovered this is not the full truth. The path to healing requires focusing some time and attention on the wounds you carry. Woundedness is the soul's voice demanding to be attended to rather than quieted. The therapeutic relationship is a conduit through which you discover your innate ability to attend to your soul and ultimately find healing.

Making that initial contact is by far the hardest part. I appreciate you reaching out to me. Making it easy to discuss difficult topics is my job, and that happens by making sure you know you are in a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment. People may seek out counseling due to a wide variety of feelings: fear, anxiety, stress, depression, anger, sadness, confusion, apathy, heartbreak, grief, or any other aspect of the incredibly complex human experience. I'm honored to help you on your journey towards emotional recovery and growth. I try to keep costs reasonable and affordable.

I work with adult and older teen clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, addictions (to substances and/or compulsive behaviors) and who are recovering from traumatic experiences. I believe that your natural self underlies any issues you may bring to therapy, and that our job as we work together is to help you rediscover and live from that natural, free, and open-hearted self.

I tailor my approach to meet the needs of those who come to see me, but offer every individual the respect and compassion they deserve. Maybe you are seeking insight and awareness for the purpose of personal growth. Perhaps you are looking to address a particular issue and need someone who can be goal directed and offer specific skills and feedback. Maybe it's hard to name just what is going on and this is one of the reasons you have decided to seek help. No two people come to therapy for the same reason because no two people are the same.

My clients struggle with life just like you. They want more in life and have struggled to find fullness and meaning. They are hurting from wounds from the past, difficulties in present-day relationships, and wrestle with self-identity. Just like you, they have tried everything they can think of to help themselves, perhaps even trying therapy or counseling before. And like you, they want a place to explore life in a nonjudgmental and safe environment.

A GPS is used to guide us to our destination. It gives us a route to get from the current location to the desired destination. But, the GPS does not tell us about all the obstacles we may encounter along the way or anticipate when we may get distracted and miss a turn. During your journey through life, you may be taken off your path by circumstances you did not foresee or by your own choices. As a result, you also may lose your relationship to self, others, and God.

I have been practicing in the Nashville area for over 15 years. In addition to completing specialized training as a mediator, I also utilize NVC to bring skillful communication techniques into my practice, have Level II EMDR training for trauma, and have experience in assisting people in difficult relationships, addiction, and life transition. I believe each person is unique, has their own set of strengths, needs and values; I believe therapy is a collaborative effort between client and therapist.

I help people with anxiety (worry or panic), depression, grief, trauma, and trouble with eating patterns or body image. I help people who find themselves in a different world due to divorce, estrangement, coming out, or relocation. I also help those visited by the ongoing impact of another's addiction or of caring for a loved one who is sick. Whether in the midst of turbulence or motivated to reclaim your strength, you're in the right place to benefit from therapy.

You are not too scared, too lonely or too sad. There is hope for you. You are not too sick or too hurt. There is hope for you. You are not too broken or too damaged. There is hope for you. At times, life can be so painful that it is difficult to believe things will ever get better. During these times what we need, as much as anything, is someone to stand by our side, understand us, and remind us that we can, once more, be healthy and whole. This is the central component in my approach to therapy.

It's my belief that within relationships we are both hurt and healed. I practice from a relational approach, specifically Attachment Theory. Attachment shapes how we view ourselves and others, and influences how we "do" close relationships. We may unconsciously carry feelings of anxiety, pain, humiliation, or even abandonment from our relationships. For example, early childhood experiences of sexual abuse, neglect, grief, loss, or vicarious trauma impact one's perception of safety and security. As a result, we may find it difficult to form satisfactory relationships in adulthood. Navigating through this process alone can be hard.Thankfully, you don't have to do it alone.

A strong therapeutic relationship can provide the context for transformative healing and growth. I work well with people who have experienced trauma or deprivation in their early experience and who desire healing from those events, as well as those who feel stuck in unhealthy patterns of behavior. Since many chronic issues contain elements of earlier experiences, our work together may include increasing your awareness about how your past is at work in the present, reducing its ability to dictate your responses and choices, and letting go of defensive strategies that worked in the past but are not serving you now.
