Not accepting new clients
As I have welcomed you to my page, let me disclose to you a little bit of what we can do together! Therapy is a collaborative effort and, in this effort, my approach to therapy is very psychodynamic; existential, attachment focus, cognitive processing, Trauma focus and mindfulness.
Being authentic is something that feels like a threat to others; mostly because, they are unfamiliar to the newness of you! As a Therapist, I thrive in helping YOU own your authenticity, through humor, creativity, compassion, determination and full acceptance! The acceptance of knowing and the acceptance of understanding! We transition from childhood into adulthood and sometimes these changes can be very overwhelming. You are not alone! Let me take this opportunity to officially welcome you to my page as you surf through what we can do together.

Using a unique combination of Motivational interviewing, CBT, and DBT skills, you’ll cultivate the power of self-love.
Somewhere along the way, you lost yourself. It happened so slowly that you barely realized it. Every time you spoke up at work, the voice in your head would criticize you, “You’re making a fool of yourself.” So, eventually, you stopped speaking up. After dates, you’d obsess over every interaction to the point where you’d be sick with worry. So, you decided it’s not worth it to keep dating. Little by little, you stopped doing things and receded further into yourself. You took fewer chances and felt fewer emotions. Every day, your world got smaller. You know you deserve more from life than this, but you’re unsure how to get it.

My work as a therapist is guided by the humanist theory that people can heal and grow if they have assistance that is genuine, empathetic, and accepting. I believe that when we accept ourselves exactly as we are, then we can find the strength to change behaviors that are not serving us. The approaches I use include EMDR, dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), neurobiology, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, attachment theory, and family systems theory.

I have a background in community mental health & private practice therapy as well as training in EMDR and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Hi! I’m Cindy, a therapist in Murfreesboro, TN. I love working with kids and adults when life gets messy. As humans we are created to have a wide range of emotions but sometimes we get stuck in a way of thinking, feeling & behaving that’s unhealthy or downright destructive. Add stress & trauma to the mix and life gets overwhelming pretty quickly. I am fascinated with the power of human connection and how adaptable the brain is. If you are just curious about therapy, feel free to reach out!

Whether you are dealing with problems from a dysfunctional family of origin, women's issues, men's issues, marital issues, relationship issues, anxiety, depressed mood, ADHD, I seek clients who are willing to work to make changes in themselves through cognitive-behavioral counseling rather than those who only want others to change.
A large part of my practice centers around working with families and helping parents of children who may be having behavior problems at home or at school and working with the children and adolescents themselves. I incorporate child-centered play therapy with young children as well as Adlerian and behavioral concepts with parents. I am a licensed psychologist with Health Service Provider in Psychology credential, a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and a retired MTSU professor after teaching in the Professional Counseling Program for 25+ years. In addition to helping families, I also work extensively with couples and individuals who may be experiencing a variety of problematic daily living situations.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
