My counseling philosophy is that all clients are unique and must have an inclusive and accepting environment where they can grow emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. It is my goal to create the type of mutually respectful atmosphere that makes room for clients to be active participants in change, improved communication, and increased self-awareness. I provide a safe space where clients are invited to share ideas, take risks, feel heard -and sometimes challenged- in the way they currently experience life. “People are not problems to be solved, they are mysteries to be explored”. Something is getting in the way of you living the life you envisioned for yourself. You’re exhausted. Empty. Unfulfilled. You don’t feel good enough. You hide your pain from those around you because you don’t want to be a burden. You want someone to understand. Well, I see you. I love working with clients who feel stuck and are looking for ways to reach their full potential – perhaps those struggling with experiences of burnout, shame, self-criticism, or uncertainty. If you tend to have higher standards for yourself than for others or if that voice in your head is making things harder than they need to be, let’s chat.

I help clients handle and express emotions through modalities, including: Psychodynamics, Mindfulness, ACT, and DBT.
Accepting new clients! Too often the strain we put on ourselves to "get it right", or "have it all together", leaves us feeling more pressured, confused, and defeated than we started. I believe in creating a space where you can better come to know yourself, and feel empowered to live the life you want. I relish in helping my clients develop self-esteem, employ coping skiLls, and authentically express themselves to find confidence in their own voice, and move towards goals and actions that align with the person they want to be. You can learn more about me at our website: https: www.ridethewavecounselingservices.com/about-kyle

I draw largely from Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness based approaches, and I stay current with relevant advances in neuropsychology which impact psychotherapy.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in the field I strive to provide informed and evidence based treatment to clients of diverse backgrounds in a safe, supportive, and accepting environment. Therapy is a unique experience in which we can create the space that we don't often make for ourselves otherwise to stay with and explore our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I recognize that seeking support can be difficult and I truly value the positive feedback my clients have provided regarding their feelings of comfort and safety in their work with me.

Using modalities such as ACT, meditation, mindfulness, somatic work, EMDR, and other trauma-informed approaches, I aim to empower clients to realize their internal resources for healing and growth and come into alignment with their true self.
Life is a natural ebb and flow. However, when we get stuck in the ebb we can begin to develop patterns of being that do not serve our physical and emotional wellbeing; this can be a difficult place from which to emerge. The decision to seek guidance during these times is a bold act of self-compassion. We have incredible internal resources and an inherent capacity for healing. My role is to help guide clients back to connection with their authentic selves and others through the process of curious exploration, loving-kindness, and present moment awareness.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in the areas of depression, infertility, anxiety, relationship issues/boundaries, and grief. I am an advocate for those I work with, empowering them to find strength within themselves to become successful independently. However, I also enjoy problem solving and supporting self-determination. I am a realist, meaning that I do not expect that life will become easy or happiness will be immediately achieved, but I also feel few things are insurmountable. I work tirelessly to improve the lives of the individuals and couples who see me because this is my passion.

Hi there! My name is Briana and I am here to support you through various challenges and transitions. We can oftentimes feel frustrated, stuck, or anxious - whether this be as a spouse, parent, employee, or just feeling overwhelmed as a human in general. We can all experience getting to a place where we feel completely numb & just trying to survive. You might feel like a hamster running on its wheel, feeling completely stuck and going nowhere, unsure of what to do differently. Maybe you're trying to heal on your own from the things that you never talk about, and are in need of someone who can listen & validate your emotions.

One of the things life has taught me is to not believe everything you think because our mind can really play tricks on us. There is hope even when you think there is none. There are solutions even when you cannot see them, because you have more power than you know.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
