I practice counseling with the perspective that humans develop behaviors to serve some sort of purpose. As a counselor, I am here to offer guidance and support for when those behaviors are no longer necessary or are no longer serving the purpose that was intended. I strive to assist clients in developing a balance in how they both experience and express emotions, with the belief that there is no "bad" emotion. My goal is to work with clients in discovering a state of awareness of the uncertainty in life rather than a fear of it.

It has been shown time and again the relationship between client and counselor is the most important part of a therapy experience. It is always on my mind to ensure that our relationship remains entirely focused on you, but as a part of the collaborative duo that will become client and therapist I’m happy to share a bit about myself. Relationally, I have been described as down-to-earth, authentic and sincere and I enjoy laughing and celebrating with clients in the therapy space as well. I believe a counselor’s role isn’t to tell you how to live your life, but to assist you with determining what you want your life to be and the steps to achieving that life and your goals. Therapy is a collaborative process and I want to be your partner on your journey.

I believe in the healing and transformational power of therapy. My work over 40 years with individuals, couples and families has shown that we have the ability to change ourselves, our relationships, our families and the world when we commit to learning and growing. I am open to the uniqueness of each individual without judgment. I have a background in spirituality and offer that as a resource for healing, if wanted and when appropriate. I believe that relationships are challenging and that we can learn skills to improve communication, intimacy, respect and trust with those we love.

Apple Seeds, Inc. enhances mental wellness and aims to improve the quality of life for individuals, moms, dads, and moms-to-be. We also offer therapeutic services designed to holistically support motherhood and those who are at risk of developing Perinatal Mood Disorders (PMAD), such as Postpartum Depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders. We also provide Mental Wellness Support, General Coaching and Solution Focused Counseling to college students that focuses on the student’s present issues, their future goals, and positive coping tools.

I have been a mental health professional for almost 40 years in a variety of settings. My experience includes service in three community mental health centers in Tennessee and Arkansas, a State Hospital internship and four years as a Staff Psychologist with the Arkansas Department of Correction. I have seen clients from a wide-range of settings with a wide-range of challenging problems. My primary focus is providing assistance to those experiencing emotional disturbances which have become overwhelming to the extent of threatening, or actually damaging the quality of the person's life.

I view counseling as a vital practice that involves connection, commitment, and hope for change. I’m able to recognize the courage it takes for anyone to ask for help, and I want to recognize the strength it takes to chose to ask for what you need. I focus on approaching each therapeutic relationship with understanding to begin building trust and open communication. My desire is to be able to provide a safe place for anyone to feel heard and work together to allow for growth.

The focus of my psychotherapy practice has tended toward “driven” people - the high performers, hard workers, and leaders of society - who are driven to succeed. Driven people often find themselves caught in a harmful but subtle cycle. At first, their drive to succeed enables them to (over)work very hard, accomplish laudable goals, and enjoy big rewards. But the same drive also seems to entail a price tag: stressful jobs, difficult relationships, internal agonies (anxiety, depression, burnout), etc. Although survival tools - food, alcohol, love/sex, wealth, fun, etc. - can manage the pain for a while, they also entrap their users.

As a therapist I strive to provide a safe and nurturing space where you feel free to explore what it means to be you and navigate life’s struggles without judgement. Therapy brings us to some of our most vulnerable moments, and I make it my mission that you feel heard, validated, and free to discover, maybe for the first time or perhaps again, who you are and/or who you’d like to become. I help clients navigate ways to improve their lives while also treating trauma-related issues, grief, relational and interpersonal challenges, family of origin issues, depression, and anxiety.

My office is a safe place to heal from deep pain and dark secrets and resolve emotionally complex situations. I can help you move on and chart a new course. I am very relaxed and informal. I am not conventional, stuffy, or judgmental. Not churchy. I work quietly and deeply. I work well with sensitive people troubled by their minds, feelings, and personal or societal unrest. I can help you set healthier boundaries with family, work, friends, and lovers. Although I will likely retire in 2025, I will see current and previous clients and a short-term new client or two. Only telehealth appointments are open for the foreseeable future.

Kristy is a licensed clinical social worker with over ten years of experience. She has experience in helping clients with histories of ADHD, disordered eating, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationships, and more. Kristy’s counseling approach is focused on building the therapeutic relationship.

I am a holistic integrative wellness practitioner. I specialize in helping clients struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. I particularly love helping those individuals who may be struggling with low self-esteem and self-worth. I enjoy guiding my clients to identify their own strengths and unlock the hidden potential that each of us possesses. I love working with individuals who are ready for change but are in need of some extrinsic motivation and guidance. For those parents who are looking for assistance for their children, I have extensive experience working with all ages, ranging from 4 to 18 years old.
