I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Structural Family Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy to help my clients lean into their own resilience and ingenuity.
Before you can show up hard as a partner, parent, son, or daughter, you have to show up for yourself first. Ultimately the changes you wish to see in your life, starts with a commitment to embrace all of you. Together we will then do the inner work to help you reap the outward benefits.

A large part of my practice centers around working with families and helping parents of children who may be having behavior problems at home or at school and working with the children and adolescents themselves. I incorporate child-centered play therapy with young children as well as Adlerian and behavioral concepts with parents. I am a licensed psychologist with Health Service Provider in Psychology credential, a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and a retired MTSU professor after teaching in the Professional Counseling Program for 25+ years. In addition to helping families, I also work extensively with couples and individuals who may be experiencing a variety of problematic daily living situations.

Therapy is more than talking about the past. It is a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere in which past hurts are resolved and healing takes place. Traumatic experiences can serve as blocks, preventing present and future peace. At Wilkinson Family Therapy, we enjoy connecting with our clients as they travel along their journey. Through intentionality and training, we create a comfortable, supportive space for our clients to grow and process their experiences.

Life can be challenging at times, and whether you are struggling with grief, relational issues, trauma, mental health and well-being or a transitional phase in your life, I work collaboratively with my clients, individual, couples or families, to support your journey. While reaching out for guidance and support can be difficult, it can be the most rewarding and life changing decision a person can make. I recognize the strength in each of my clients and work with them to discover the skills and resources they already have and those that may need to navigate the moment that they are in.

Most of my clients are young children and families. Many of the families I see struggle with trauma. Most of the children and parents have struggled with behavioral challenges such as attachment issues, anxiety, self injuries, aggression, impulsivity, sleeping and mood disturbances. Many are suffering with grief such as the death of someone they loved, or divorce or even separation from a caregiver. Often, parents are unsure of how to address these issues with their children. All of my clients seek support and empowerment in order to be healthy and productive as individuals, as parents and as families.

I truly believe we all have within us the capacity to live a great and meaningful life. If you struggle to believe this, it is often a symptom of living life out of alignment with your core values or attunement with who you truly are. It's easy to get bogged down and covered by all the expectations and narratives placed on us from outside sources (family, work, society, etc.) and we lose ourselves in all the noise. Work with me will include slowing down, turning inward, & getting clear on what matters most to you, which will in turn influence your decision-making and shape your perspective and how you view life moving forward.

I am a caring and empathetic person who has a heart for helping people. As a therapist I seek to work collaboratively with clients in establishing treatment goals. My hope is that clients will learn new and healthier ways of living and gain a greater ability to treat both themselves and others with compassion. It takes courage to step into the therapy room, so I work to provide a disarming and open space for clients to share. My curiosity guides me as I get to know people for who they are and I enjoy helping clients learn to think, feel, and act in new, productive ways to become the people they want to be.

I tend towards a systemic approach in my therapeutic practice, meaning I believe we all operate in some sort of system: marriage/family, identity/community, work/professional, I believe when there is a breakdown in one of our systems; we tend to struggle. We will identify where you're struggling & develop a plan to get you back to living your best life.

My ideal client is someone who is motivated to see change in their lives. I strive to be well versed in various treatment modalities so as to provide the best path for each client's individual healing and growth. I understand each person's lived experience is different and even similarities to other people (i.e. DSM-5 diagnoses) are formed due to unique circumstances and reasons in each person's life. This is why I will always tailor treatment to best meet each person's needs.

One of the scariest parts of therapy is the unknown. Our fear of therapy focuses on what we will have to say, the things we will have to feel but rarely when we think of therapy do we focus on the things we may find within ourselves. Like the courage to speak power to our own voice. The reality that we are not the sum of the worst things that have happened to us. Hell, maybe that we have always been valuable and we never deserved the way we were treated, the hurt we were given or the hurt that is still present within us. It is through our therapeutic process that we are able to organize your thoughts and prioritize your voice.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, in a “funk,” lonely, or out-of-sorts? Do you feel you have to put on a face to show that you have it all together? Do you feel sadness or anxiety from past experiences or current events? Maybe it's hard even to pinpoint. It can be hard to ask for help, but coming here is a significant first step toward living a fuller, happier life. As a therapist, my goal is to provide a space where you can feel understood, supported, and empowered. I truly believe that effective therapy is grounded in a genuine and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist.

Being a good listener by engaging with you is paramount to what I see as working with current issues client's face. Understanding that clients search for solutions to their problems, knowing and learning how to help themselves become stronger, whether a survivor of trauma, infidelity, substance abuse or neglect, or anger you may hit a breaking point. Please know that together we can take you to the next level, to what works best for setting goals and interventions best done where change can happen. Don't put off today where you want to be tomorrow-change can make a difference.
