My ideal client is someone who feels that life has lost its way and they aren't sure how to get back on track. Whether the cause is depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, or stress, people need to feel like they have some control over life to be powerful and mental health struggles make it hard to exercise that control.

Counseling is not someone else fixing your problems or telling you what to do; that is up to you as you are the expert of your life. It requires a person to dig deep within themselves for self awareness, understanding, acceptance, forgiveness, and/or healing. This can be uncomfortable work taking one outside their comfort zone which involves courage and resolve (grit). Courteous goodwill (grace) to oneself is often needed as people tend to treat themselves way harsher than they treat others. I believe the counseling process involves part grit and part grace, with both being needed to heal and thereby strengthening your character.

Life is an ever changing process. Whether it is the people we surround ourselves with, the classes/job we work, or our own physical well-being, few things remain the same. Sometimes, these changes bring on new challenges we feel unprepared to deal with; this past year, the COVID-19 pandemic left several of us feeling alone and ill-equipped for what it brought. In times like these, therapy can be helpful in working through such issues.

In our lives, we will experience many transitions; school, relationships, aging, medical needs, and numerous others. In our current state, Coronavirus is interrupting our lives in a major way and is likely one of our biggest challenges today. This is when mental health can become more difficult to manage. It is not unusual to experience difficult feelings during such times. We may even find that we are having severe anxiety or depression. We can work through these transitions and move beyond them to a better life. It will take work but it can be done.

As a counselor, my goal is to help each individual reach their own goals and recognize that they are already amazing people. Depression, anxiety, phobias, grief, trauma, and addiction are all areas that I am trained in, but these issues do not define who my patients are. Rather, they are obstacles in life that can be managed and even overcome with their strength and resilience that is already present. I simply act as a guide through their journey, providing insight, coping skills, and a unique perspective.

I do maintain professionalism, boundaries and ethics in my approach, but my hope is for each person to feel comfortable enough to be open and honest with themselves so that they are able to face their fears and address issues to work towards desired goals.
Overwhelmed with life? Struggling with things past or present? Things going well and you just want to check in with someone to ensure you aren't self-sabotaging? You have stopped on the right profile. I have 13+ years of experience working with a multitude of issues/needs. My main focus is with Grief, Loss and Recovery, which encompasses a wide variety of experiences. My philosophy is that your brain is going to go where it needs to go for the healing process, and I work within this process for the therapeutic experience.

These include, but are not limited to anxiety, stress, confusion, frustration, depression, and anger.
I came to the counseling profession with a professional background primarily as a first responder, specifically in law enforcement. My desire to work as a law enforcement officer is the same desire that has brought me to a career as a professional counselor. As an officer, I have seen too many times the trauma others face and how individuals may not know who or where to reach out to talk to someone. It is my desire to help individuals in their time of need.

Through personal experience, I am familiar with military community, multicultural relationships, postpartum depression/ anxiety, premarital counseling, & LGBTQ+ relationships.
Accepting new clients! Are you finding you & your partner arguing often, living as roommates, walking on eggshells, or all of the above? This can be very lonely & feel like a great love lost. Avoiding the root of these conflicts can continue negative cycles and lead to resentment, and relationship exhaustion. I use the "gold standard" of couples therapy to help couples understand their pattern of interaction, become aware of how to change it, and begin to cradle each other in conflict instead of turning away.

Does your child complain of stomach aches? Say they don't want to go to school? Do they struggle to sleep? Are they having issues with their siblings or other people? Is there a history of trauma? Do you feel at an impasse? Hope is not lost! I work with children and their parents on communicating and solving their struggles together. All children are welcome. I specialize in children, preteens, and teenagers. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can all show up as anger, fear, lethargy, and lack of sleep. The sooner it is addressed the sooner your child can feel better and more themselves.

I have worked with adolescents and adults working through grief, loss, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders.
As a therapist, I believe in meeting my clients exactly where they are in their healing journey. Ultimately, I enjoy working with individuals who are experiencing grief or other life transitions that are having trouble navigating new terrain. I also work with those who may be experiencing anxiety and depression and need assistance in creating coping skills. Additionally, I love to help men and women explore their own attachment style and work through early trauma.

You are doing a brave thing. Anxiety, panic attacks, and depression can play a role in keeping us from seeking help outside of our known comfort zone. But there is help available, and hope for a better life. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, and trauma and PTSD symptoms. We may cope in ways that work in the moment, but come back in the form of panic attacks, isolation, fatigue, lack of focus, appetite changes, difficulty staying motivated, and feeling constantly on edge or numb. If anxiety is hindering your quality of life, or your depression is too heavy to carry alone, welcome. This is a safe place to unpack these.

My experience in mental health has led to work with individuals in areas not limited to depression, anxiety, addiction and trauma.
Have you ever played the game of Life? The board game with the cars and pegs, where you spin the wheel and try to live your best life with all the twists and turns that come with it. I believe we are all driving our little cars around on this journey, and sometimes we need an extra passenger to help us along the way. Whether you need guidance in decision making, a companion to drive away fear and loneliness, or confidence to take control of your life, sometimes we all need that passenger peg. Whatever point in this "game of life" you might be at, I want to join you and help you reach your goals.

I also host a podcast called Hope for Anxiety and OCD.
New clients for intensive therapy only. Are you ready to get unstuck from worry, obsessions, uncomfortable body sensations, traumatic memories, or shame? I believe a deeper level of healing is possible by getting to the root of the issue. I have 15 years of watching clients transform their lives, so I know it's possible for you too. Often talking alone will not get you there because your nervous system holds the keys to unlocking automatic responses. By making mind, emotion, and body connections together, we will work together to help you reach your goals. Looking to heal faster? Ask me about therapy retreat services.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
