I use a person-centered and integrative approach informed by my 30 year background in somatics and expressive arts along with training in Somatic Experiencing, The Hakomi Method, and DBT.
Healing begins when we learn to understand ourselves. I help adults, children, adolescents and families shine a compassionate light on their thoughts, feelings, and patterns of relating to find new possibilities beyond the habitual survival strategies that have helped you to defend against stress and trauma. Therapy can give you the tools and awareness to make the changes that you want to make while you learn to experience a greater sense of safety and resilience, recover from difficult experiences, find more acceptance, get your needs met with more clarity, balance connection with boundaries, and live life with greater meaning.

I utilize evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT and motivational interviewing.
Accepting new clients! Sometimes, the weight of our emotions can become too much to carry alone. When life feels overwhelming, therapy can provide the support and guidance needed to move toward change. It is important to remember that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength and self-awareness. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe space to be who you are without judgement.

I specialize in skills based therapy, specifically dialectical behavioral therapy and am a shame certified therapist.
Serving Tennessee and Colorado virtually. Do you feel like you are drowning in emotions and can’t catch your breath? Do you struggle feeling heard? Do you feel unsupported from other people? Are you overwhelmed with daily activities or lack motivation? Do you struggle with shame? Have you been diagnosed or suspect you have anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, grief, or relationship issues? These challenges are more common than ever. Most individuals put off help, and like cancer the situation can worsen. To improve, it can seem overwhelming. You are not alone.

I am person-centered & eclectic, pulling from modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Behavioral, and Dialectical Behavior Therapies.
The world has never been easy for kids and teens. Growing up while trying to figure out who they are and what they value in the midst of seeking approval from friends and family. This has been compounded in the past years by a global pandemic, halting or slowing social-emotional growth. Anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance use, and other mental health concerns are emerging from people of all ages. Counseling can help. Knowing there is someone to come alongside as your child or teen wrestles with the normal changes of life and any extra challenges that appear can bring hope to everyone.

I consider it one of my greatest privileges to partner with people as they navigate their stories. I know from personal experience that therapy can be invaluable when processing change, emotional turmoil, and questions about self. While I often utilize concepts from CBT, DBT, and other theories, I most often draw from Narrative Theory and take a Person-Centered approach in my work with clients. I am trained in TF-CBT and EMDR, and my professional history includes over four years working exclusively with survivors of sexual trauma.

The therapeutic techniques I use include, but are not limited to, Play Therapy, CBT, and DBT.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed because you don’t know the next steps to take to help your child? Does it feel like you can't have a conversation with your child without it turning into a fight? If the answer is yes, we should talk! One day your child will be able to have a conversation with you without arguing. They will wake up and not feel instantly anxious about the day. They will be able to fall asleep without overthinking everything that happened during the day. They will be able to recognize their emotions and verbalize their needs with you.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
