I am a therapist who has primarily worked with mothers who have a history of addiction. I am very passionate about working with individuals who are curious about their behavioral patterns, are driven to better themselves by asking those difficult questions, and ready to break generational cycles of trauma or addiction. I believe that addiction and mental health go hand in hand. Although individuals have sought services for substance use, there was work to be done with trauma, depression, anxiety, etc. I primarily work with teens and adults, and I especially enjoy serving the BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and international communities.

VIRTUAL VISITS-Telehealth. We specialize in sessions via the internet on high encrypted, Hipaa Compliant systems (similar to FaceTime, Skype, etc.) It allows for same day sessions for clients who are not able to make it into one of our physical locations. Clients can use their phones, tablets, laptops, and PC's. We are a professional counseling firm with experienced counselors in Sexual Abuse, Relationship/Marital Counseling, Family Counseling, Codependency Counseling, Gender Identity, Incarceration/Probation Counseling, and specialize in Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling for adults and teens, as well as Trauma and PTSD.

I have had a passion for working with children since I first decided to go into the field of psychology. This was due to the natural relationship that I have always had with children and the desire to see them and their families have better lives. If you have a child who is struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem I can offer practical solutions to help. I am a naturally curious person who will never stop working to discover your child's needs and to offer effective and efficient treatment advice.

I believe that with enough stress anyone could become overwhelmed and need help re-grouping. My goal is to help clients identify and access strengths as well as learn new coping skills to have happier relationships; increased self-esteem; and a more fulfilling life. I have experience with all types of clients and issues ranging from adjustment problems (primarily relationships and work) to more complex issues including depression, anxiety, grief, and unresolved childhood abuse.

Life is often challenging, and it can be hard to show resilience in times of stress or difficulty. To protect yourself, you may have started to avoid or disconnect from things that once made you feel whole, connected, and productive. You may be at a point where you recognize that this avoidance, while protecting you from difficult feelings, has a cost. Your life has become smaller, less engaging, and avoidance or fear have taken over. You want to make a change but are having a hard time doing so on your own.

After retirement from the USAF I pursued a degree that I could use to help others. The most effective therapy I could find is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). For about eight years now I have worked with clients of various ages and all walks of life to address their individual trauma. I have seen insecurity replaced with confidence. My goal is to assist my clients to have a better quality of life. I work to help them replace nightmares with a good night’s sleep. Trauma effects each individual differently from depression to memory gaps, to fits of rage or drug abuse, maybe it is time to come in and talk.

Joelle Burkett, LSPE Joelle Burkett is a Licensed Senior Psychological Examiner in Tennessee who has been practicing since 1998. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Tennessee and her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Austin Peay State University. Joelle received her license as a Psychological Examiner and her Senior Psychological Examiner license from the State of Tennessee. Joelle has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution focused Therapy and Trauma Focused Therapy.
