There is a wealth of bravery in taking the first step to pursue counseling! I approach my work with clients by meeting clients where they are. I collaborate with individuals I work with, delving into their inner worlds and their lived experiences. Together, we explore the client's strengths and how these can be utilized to propel the individual to success.

There is a reason we do the things that we do and feel the way that we feel. All mental health issues are caused by us surviving and navigating this world to the best of our abilities given all the obstacles that can get in the way. Therapy is a science and an art. In better understanding the science and the question of “why” we do the things that we do can be a powerful tool in starting your healing journey. Once having this level of insight, therapy aims to not only heal you in the present but heal the deeper underlying issues that have caused things to get to this point.

Therapy is a place to heal, grow, set goals, and get to know yourself, where you don’t have to wear a mask or say you’re “Okay” even if you’re not. A place to be your genuine self without judgement or criticism. I practice strengths-based treatment and want my clients to feel accomplished, validated, and supported at the end of a session. We all have different goals for therapy. Whether yours is healing trauma, improving relationships or managing stress your goals are important and deserve the time and effort that therapy requires. How have you been speaking to yourself lately? Taking a moment to check in and explore our thoughts can give us good insight to our relationship to self. Therapy can provide that space, to slow down, to explore, & to feel. Together we can interact with those thoughts and emotions you’ve been bottling up for some time. Together we spend time exploring your anxiety, life changes, depressed mood, trauma history, avoidance, relationship cycles, reactive behaviors, hypervigilance, and overwhelming thoughts.

Cindy believes humans are physical, mental, emotional, sexual and spiritual beings thus the goal of therapy is to obtain health in all areas of one's being. I believe a client takes the first step to healing as soon as the counseling appointment is made. It's a privilege to observe transformation in a client on the road to hope and healing by focusing on the strengths from within the client. It is exciting to watch a couple go from the brink of divorce to a marriage better than ever.

I am passionate about working with first responders and veterans. I understand the importance of having a counselor that is culturally competent in these professions. As a former first responder of 18 years (firefighter, EMT and peace officer), I have a sincere and genuine motivation to continue helping others. Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
