In that process I use many tools, including training in IFS, EMDR and the Enneagram, to help you in your journey.
We all have areas of our lives where we feel stuck. We can’t seem to figure out what’s going on inside us or in our situations. Even if we see a problem, we might not know how to navigate it. Counseling is an experience that helps you safely explore these places to make sense of your experience and find more clarity for the experiences to come. Together, we sift through the combination of thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns that make up who we are to find deeper understanding, clarity, and peace.

I’m interested in working with a diverse range of clients using modalities such as Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, and Person-Centered Theory.
I come to the therapy field by way of the legal field. My time in the legal field cultivated a deep appreciation of peoples’ stories - including their conflicts, struggles, and desire for healing and connection. Exploring our story in a safe and nurturing environment allows us to more deeply connect with ourselves and navigate the many difficulties of life. I hope our work together will help you better understand the many parts that make up your story so that you feel empowered as you journey through life. I am honored to have the opportunity to walk alongside people as they work toward contentment and wholeness.

I use an integrative and holistic approach — drawing from Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, HRV Biofeedback, and my Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy training, and other approaches.
I use my training and years of experience to build relationships with clients that produce wholeness and healing. I believe the care, trust, and honesty in the counseling relationship can help people move from surviving (maybe just barely) to thriving. I want my clients to experience renewal in their lives.

Life is hard. Being a human is hard. We all go through tough times -whether it be difficulties in relationships, work, or life transitions. Maybe you’re not even sure why life feels so hard right now. Sometimes in these times we need extra support or someone to carry hope when you can’t seem to hold onto any.

Are you seeking inner peace? Desperate for relief from the troubles surrounding you? Anxious, scared, lonely, sad or confused? It can be hard raising children. Typically after giving birth many moms find themselves in a sea of emotions. In this stage of life that can be labeled “blissful,” it may actually feel overwhelming. Your idea of being a perfect parent is shattered on the floor, along with the heaps of laundry and scattered toys. Your childhood trauma may be getting triggered and it can feel exhausting. You want to be fully present for your family and more importantly yourself. This is the time to reach out and get help.

You're exhausted and overwhelmed by life, it's just too much and you feel like a failure. The to-do list goes on forever, the kids always need YOU and you're not sure that you're really enough. Maybe you've been feeling sad, anxious, irritable, and disconnected from those you love. Or when you first woke up this morning everything felt okay for a minute, but then you remembered, and it was like a punch in your gut, all the heartbreak and loss, all the pain, came rushing back over you. You want to feel like you again, to let go of the past, to be able to enjoy life and be present in the moment with the people that you care about.

I am convinced that there is incredible power and healing in experiencing genuine, authentic relationships. There has been so much change in your life with no time to process or take a breath. You can’t afford to fall apart; everyone in your life needs you to keep it together. You’re the most self-aware person you know, but you can’t escape your own mind, even with lots of compulsive googling. Maybe things aren’t working in a role or relationship or religion, but changing it feels impossible. The anxiety and grief are exhausting – you're doing your best, but you can feel yourself fragmenting apart behind the scenes. You’re tired of performing the self that others want. You wish you could feel clear and confident about who you are.

On the outside it looks like you have it all together. But on the inside you never feel good enough and the voice in your head is quick to remind you of all the ways you’re falling short. You've spent the last however-many-years trying to keep everything together, but it’s exhausting, and you don’t think you can do it anymore. You're tired of giving so much to everyone else while you continue to come last on your list. Not anymore. It's time for a change.

Is Anxiety holding you back? You’ve always been proactive, perceptive, and personable - but you’re afraid of losing your edge. Things are piling up, getting bottlenecked, and feeling dicey. Your mind is racing and your body is lagging. It’s challenging to maintain that upbeat, agreeable, and positive outlook that you’re known for - especially when you're in the car or working alone. Typically you’d put your head down and push through. But this time? You know that’s not enough. Nothing is glaringly obvious from the outside…but that’s why internally you want to stay ahead of it. Hi! I’m Sheaba. I can help.

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
