Hi! I’m Lexie, and I’m so glad you’ve found the courage to begin your therapy journey. I recognize the vulnerability it’s taken to get this point of reaching out for help. As your counselor, I will always seek to better understand your worldview and validate your perspective. I work with individuals and couples who are looking to better understand their emotions, establish boundaries, and navigate their anxieties and fears. I am also passionate about serving those going through life transitions. While change can be exciting, it is still difficult to process the grief and anxiety related to change.

Many struggle with life issues, however when issues arise that are very difficult to resolve, the insight of a compassionate and objective professional can be very beneficial. The issues that arise in life are as varied as the individuals experiencing them causing one to feel overwhelmed, unhappy and dissatisfied. It is my hope that you will pursue the peace and purpose in life that you deserve.

*EVENING Appointments * Have you ever wondered what a psychologist does? You’re not alone! Broadly, psychologists help individuals improve emotional, physical, and social functioning. A psychologist might help a client with 1) depression, anxiety, anger, or insomnia 2) a chronic mental or physical condition negatively impacting functioning, or 3) managing acute stress/adjustment related to divorce, new job, retirement, or the death of a loved one. Support, psychoeducation, a fresh perspective, and improved coping skills can help you better manage and overcome factors interfering with your quality of life.

I am a firm believer that everyone has a unique story to share. Often those stories reveal a lot more than meets the eye. Only when we begin embracing our stories does healing take place. By understanding and owning our past we gain the insight and ability to influence our future. I practice an approach that is holistic in nature and believe it is essential to treat the mind, body, and soul. I have worked with various specialties such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Sex Addiction, Substance Addiction, Counseling for those with Autism, Couples in distress, and Severe Trauma.

As a psychotherapist for more than 30 years, I believe that therapeutic alliance between a therapist and client is most essential for successful treatment outcomes. It establishes trust, encourages collaboration, and reinforces realistic expectations that enable clients to achieve their unique abilities, strength, positive traits, talent, gifts and skills and should not be defined by their circumstances or diagnosis. While I cannot change the past, we can at least work together to figure out ways to promote values, unconditional self-acceptance, set goals that would lead to growth and development and overall wellbeing.

One of the most important factors of success in therapy is your relationship with the counselor. It is a big reason why finding a counselor who is a "good fit" is an important decision. That important decision can seem paralyzing, but know that I am here to walk alongside you in any way that I can as you build the life that you want.

My first responsibility as your counselor is to provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space which facilitates your growth process and where you can openly share with someone who listens and cares. As we get to know each other, you’ll find that I believe change can occur when we discover or recover how to be attuned to our true, authentic selves and live from that knowing and those values. I also believe healing and growth can occur when we are seen and known and are caring for our social, physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual selves. Together, we can build knowledge and skills which can help in the long-term.

I enjoy working with women who view themselves as people pleasers. These same women want to reverse self-doubt and overthinking. I also work with motivated adults who want to understand how their past has impacted them. If you are a young adult who is looking for goal-oriented therapy that can help you move toward your future with confidence, I can help! Do you feel like you care a lot about the thoughts and opinions of others and would like to change that? We can talk through that too. You might feel like you can't talk about how you're feeling with those around you. Let's talk about it.

My vision for counseling is to foster an environment that promotes the client's exploration of resolution to life's problems. I understand that therapy can be a difficult, yet rewarding process. I believe that the real work of therapy must be done by the client, and I work collaboratively with clients to identify therapy goals and the 'roadmap' to the achievement of these goals.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
