Something is getting in the way of you living the life you envisioned for yourself. You’re exhausted. Empty. Unfulfilled. You don’t feel good enough. You hide your pain from those around you because you don’t want to be a burden. You want someone to understand. Well, I see you. I love working with clients who feel stuck and are looking for ways to reach their full potential – perhaps those struggling with experiences of burnout, shame, self-criticism, or uncertainty. If you tend to have higher standards for yourself than for others or if that voice in your head is making things harder than they need to be, let’s chat.

As a therapist, I am dedicated to creating a safe and compassionate space where individuals can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgment. Whether you are trying to navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, loss of a loved one, relationship issues, trauma experiences, or day to day life stressors, you do not have to do it alone. I believe that therapy should be rooted in empathy, authenticity, and collaboration, aiming to empower clients to navigate life’s challenges, while at the same time, discovering their strengths.

I am a proud Appalachian American, living in East Tennessee with my husband and our three boys. Twelve years ago, I began working with individuals of varying abilities and diverse diagnoses. Populations served range from children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to adults with dual diagnosis and adolescents healing from abuse and neglect to women in recovery from domestic violence and human trafficking. I am passionate about working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, parent-child and family conflict, substance use, and so much more.
Les Brown once said, "I believe that life is a journey, often difficult and sometimes incredibly cruel, but we are well equipped for it if only we tap into our talents and gifts and allow them to blossom." As we navigate life, it can often feel like we are doing this alone and can feel overwhelmed by the hard things, which can impact how we see ourselves (self-esteem, anxiety, depression, substance use, anger, etc.), our relationships (conflict or co-dependency), and the world. The truth is, though, we don't actually have to do any of it alone!

My areas of expertise include Trauma and Attachment, ADHD and other neurodivergent issues, Anxiety and Depression, Mental Performance and Sports, and Parenting and Family systems.
Being human is hard! I believe most of us are doing the best we can with the awareness that we currently have, and also know that things can be easier and we can feel better. We must learn to attend to our own internal experiences to safely connect with ourselves and with others and build a healthy support system from the inside out. I’m passionate about providing a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore dysfunctional patterns that are causing pain, increasing stress, and taking away from our fulfillment in life. We must be and create the change we want to see, and I am here to help you, your family, and your child reach their goals.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
