I treat adults, couples and families through an interactive supportive counseling process. Many of the issues my client's encounter stem from relationship issues, depression, anxiety, addiction, substance abuse, life adjustment, work stress, school, and behavioral problems. I have a realistic straightforward approach to addressing these situations.

I specialize in Substance Use Disorder Education, Training and Counseling.
Addiction/ Substance Use Disorders are family illnesses that create unhealthy patterns in all types of relationships. Recovery is a journey from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body to contentment and serenity! The journey is Physical, Mental/Emotional and Spiritual. It does take time and a willingness to walk through some discomfort in order to gather tools, practice using them and gain confidence. I wish to serve those who desire to begin that journey, or have already been walking the journey but may need some assistance to work through some core issues that keep creating chaos in you or a loved one's life.

I also have experience in an outpatient setting working with individuals and family members of those struggling with addiction.
There is meaning in every struggle or bump in the road we face in life. Uncovering that meaning and telling our story is often the beginning of the path to healing. I work with both individuals and couples looking to repair relationships and create deeper more meaningful connection. Whether you are struggling with relationship issues, addiction, work/life balance, or just feeling overwhelmed at what life is bringing, I'd be honored to walk with you on that journey. As a second career, my journey into therapy follows a 15-year tenure in corporate management.

Whether you are looking for help with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, addiction, codependency, or adjusting to changes in your life, let's work together to create the changes you want and need! .
Life rarely goes according to plan! That leaves us with the task of figuring out how to manage uncertainty, heartache, change, and challenges. No matter what issues you are dealing with, you don't have to manage it on your own. Therapy can be a place of support and safety, a place where you sort through what life has given you to find a path towards hope, health, and peace.

I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults (18+) specializing in ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, Co-Dependency, and Interpersonal Relationships/conflict.
Therapy is an experience that I have seen from both sides, as a client and clinician. This is why my approach comes from an empathic, relative point of view. My belief is that a client knows more about what they need better than anyone else. However, we all need guidance and assistance at times to help unlock our potential. I have learned that each client has their own set of core beliefs, maladaptive coping skills, and a significant barrier to obtaining the life we deserve. As a result, we can work to change these unhealthy behaviors one may use to numb and escape feelings that are destructive and harmful together.

Consider this - You are not required to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm. Have you been keeping others warm for far too long at the expense of yourself? Is it finally time to put YOU first? Whether you are struggling with things that have happened in your past, seek to have more fulfilling and lasting relationships, or simply just want to feel better than you did yesterday, I would be honored to walk beside you. I like to think of going to therapy as a scheduled time in your week to invest in yourself – it doesn’t mean that something is wrong with you. Rather, coming to therapy means something is RIGHT with you.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
