I can walk with you to healing with the use of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness therapy and an integrative approach based on the belief that our mind, body, and spirit all interact.
Pain is a powerful motivator for change. Being human means struggling with brokenness and pain. Being human also means we have the choice and ability to work toward healing and toward a more abundant life. When the suffering outweighs the joy of living, it would be my privilege to offer you the tools and guidance needed for healing.I am able to provide this thru personal experience and professional training. I am also a certified yoga instructor and offer individual yoga and meditation (without mysticism) to compliment the therapeutic process.

My orientation blends cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and family systems approaches to healing and change.
My approach is to actively engage, creating a supportive and collaborative environment that is equally empathic and challenging. By focusing on both past experiences and present circumstances, I seek to access the client's inner strengths in order to overcome difficult situations, make noticeable changes and break unhealthy patterns.

I draw on a variety of psychodynamic techniques, as well as more directive, cognitive-based approaches.
I believe we all do our very best to cope with life’s challenges. Allowing someone to face those challenges with you can be one of the hardest aspects of starting psychotherapy. I approach therapy as a partner in exploration and discovery. I work toward creating a safe, warm environment that facilitates connection, understanding, and positive change. Every person is unique and so are their strengths, struggles, and goals, so I focus on tailoring treatment to the specific needs of each client.

I provide psychoeducation and use CBT, ACT, solution focused modalities and take a client centered approach in all I do.
Challenges and struggles in life are a human experience. Sometimes navigating these events is confusing and overwhelming. It is okay to not have all the answers. Asking for help and guidance is a form of self-care that you deserve. Counseling offers a safe place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings, your past and hopes for the future. Along the way, finding insight, accessing your skills and inner strength will give you the hope and motivation to continue on your journey. “Growth is never by mere chance. It is the result of forces working together.” James Cash Penney

I have completed training in Brainspotting, TF-CBT, and Gottman Couples Therapy.
Do you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or numb? What about broken, trapped, or lost? We have times in life that can be exhausting and scary; where there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Many times these experiences feel completely outside of our control. Maybe you’ve been experiencing this for a long time or just recently. You don't have to struggle alone! I’m passionate about working with people who are experiencing a difficult journey in life. I will walk with you, side by side, through the fire to help you get to the other side. Let me help you discover the phoenix within the ashes so you can feel whole again!

I believe in incorporating CBT, DBT, Reality Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, depending on each client's needs.
If you struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trouble at school or with friendships, career stress, marital issues, divorce, parenting, neurodiversity including Autism/Asperger’s, ADHD or neurocognitive deficits, or anything that is preventing you from living a joyful, fulfilled life, let’s talk! I primarily work with adolescents and adults, but am open to younger clients as well. Therapy is like auto maintenance. If we don't keep up with oil changes, something major is bound to break eventually. So whether it's a tune-up or major repair you're looking for, I'm here to help.

I also incorporate CBT techniques as well as a reality therapy approach to help my clients identify and reach their individualized goals.
Our emotions and actions can negatively impact our relationships with those around us. I approach counseling from a collaborative perspective, in which you, the client, and I work together to identify ways to address your concerns and meet your therapeutic goals. I firmly believe that each client has the ability to accomplish their goals when they can engage authentically in a nonjudgmental therapeutic space. I approach the counseling relationship from the perspective that my job is to help provide a new perspective to the situations you bring to session as well as tools and techniques to help address these areas.

My therapeutic approach incorporates Attachment Theory, CBT, Mindfulness-based approaches, and parts work.
Are you struggling with feeling disconnected from yourself and your relationships? Maybe you are about to enter or have just entered motherhood, and you don't recognize yourself anymore. Your body no longer feels like yours, your needs are at the bottom of every to do list, and you're wondering why motherhood doesn't feel like everyone said it should. Or maybe you are going through some other type of transition in your life. You used to be an expert at avoiding your negative emotions, but now you are being hijacked by them during your down time. How do you keep managing your relationships and your life through this overwhelm?

Generally, I use a cognitive behavioral approach with flexibility to personalize treatment based on the needs of the individual.
Everyone faces challenges in today's fast-paced society. Sometimes, the challenges can feel overwhelming. Therapy can help address issues that interfere with our relationships, goals, happiness and ability to function. Change in behavior does not typically come easily, though. Established thinking and behavior patterns may get us through the day, but they also can prevent us from reaching our full potential. When a client establishes a therapeutic relationship with a counselor, they in essence are saying that merely functioning is not good enough. They want more: increased self-awareness, improved relationships, enhanced professional success, greater personal happiness.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
