Grief and heartbreak are part of life, but right now, you might be feeling like it's all too much to bear. You don't have to figure it all out on your own. I can help. Perhaps you or someone close to you is coping with a terminal illness or you're struggling after a loved one's death. Maybe you are experiencing another heartbreak, perhaps caused by a relationship or a trauma. Or, maybe you are struggling to find ways to love and accept yourself in a world that makes you feel less than.

If not for the friends and counselors in my life, I don't know where I would be today. Growing up in Colombia during a time of civil unrest, I witnessed much suffering and was personally touched by it as I experienced the murder of my father. The effects this had on me and my family are what lead me to the place of seeking help. We all need someone who will listen, comfort, and guide us towards health and healing. As a recipient of great care, I passionately aspire to give what has been given to me.

Are you experiencing the road as lonely and isolating or feeling confused about your choices? Finding your authentic way on the challenging paths of life can be difficult and overwhelming. Perhaps the end of a journey with a loved one is bringing deep sadness.

We all face challenges in life, but we do not have to face them alone. It is important to be able to communicate our feelings and needs in a safe environment. And sometimes, we need a guide to help us navigate the difficult inner territory that stands between us and our best selves. I seek to create a safe space where you can heal and grow, and to help you work through the struggles, losses and wounds that keep you from thriving.

My practice focuses on walking alongside men, women, teens, couples, and families and tackling concerns like anxiety, depression, parenting, ADHD, grief, and burnout.
In our journey through life, we encounter times that are tough to navigate. It could be a fresh challenge that appears out of nowhere or an old emotional wound that requires healing. Sometimes, we need a place to share our thoughts, feelings, and emotions freely. That's where counseling steps in as a valuable tool. I see it as a way to guide and support your personal growth and healing, helping you move forward.

Life, especially relational life, can be confusing and overwhelmingly painful.. These difficult conditions often have a purpose, which is healing and positive change. My speciality is relationships, and with an extensive background in crisis intervention, I help couples unpack conflict, reduce anxiety by finding the path forward, learning the tools to achieve desired change, especially connection. As deeply painful and uncertain as difficulties may be, it is also a time of opportunity, growth, healing and wisdom.

I have specific training with over 20 years of experience, walking alongside those struggling with complex trauma, addiction, mood disorders, grief, experiencing suicidal thoughts and, self harming behaviors.
Over the course of life, we can all experience ups and downs, joy, pain, times of stress. In times of distress and discomfort, one can struggle with feeling life is spiraling out of control. We cannot control all things, and we can choose to ask for support. My passion is joining people in their journey in a safe, ethical therapeutic relationship to heal, change, and grow into the best authentic versions of themselves; to live not just survive.

My ideal client is navigating the turbulent waters of grief after the loss of a significant person, feeling adrift in a sea of emotions like sadness, anger, and confusion. They seek not just to survive their loss but to find a way to grow through their grief, longing for a compassionate guide to help them rediscover their identity and rebuild a life filled with purpose and hope. They want to honor their loved one's memory by living a full, meaningful life, yet need support to navigate this journey towards healing and transformation.

I love hearing client’s unique stories and walking with them through whatever life brings their way. I want to help clients get to the root of their issues rather than staying on the surface of the same patterns. I desire to help clients get out of survival mode by opening their hearts and learning more of who they are so they can live life fully the way God made them. I have experience in both private practice and residential treatment. I have worked closely with those dealing with addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, self-esteem issues, codependency, marriage counseling, and relationship issues.

From personal experience, I know that finding the right therapist can take time and energy - two things that often feel far away when you're navigating overwhelming burnout, grief, and/or life changes. Or perhaps asking for help feels incredibly foreign and you're the one who's used to having it together... though that's a testament to your strength, I'm here to tell you that you don't have to shoulder that burden alone. It is my hope that the therapeutic relationship can serve as a place where your body, mind, and spirit can rest, reattune, and find renewed strength for the journey ahead.

As the owner of Duncan Counseling, LLC, I specialize in working with women (TN, KY, FL) who are feeling overwhelmed by life, experiencing relationship issues, or grieving with the loss of a loved one.
Do you ever feel like maybe you should talk to someone but don’t feel like things are “bad enough” yet? Do you feel like “other people have it worse” and “I should be thankful” instead of asking for help? Maybe you don’t feel like adding one more thing to your already hectic schedule. You also probably just don’t feel like fighting traffic in what little free time you do have. Did you know your life doesn’t have to be completely falling apart in order to seek therapy services? What if I told you that you could cut the travel and maximize your precious free time by attending teletherapy services from the comfort of your own space?

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
