I work to build trusting, safe, non-judgmental therapeutic relationships, using the core principles and skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.
It takes courage to do what you are doing, and I commend you for taking the first step. Fear, anxiety, grief, and depression are emotions that we all experience. They aren’t unusual, but at times they can feel like a runaway train, stealing your thoughts, time, energy and happiness. I work together with my clients on managing and regulating these overwhelming thoughts and emotions, and help them to draw from their own strength to live a life that’s purposeful and fulfilling according to their values. You are the expert on you, and I will be there to give insight, feedback, and offer new perspectives and coping skills.

Terrible thoughts of worry and shame attack you around the clock. Worrying about things you should have done keeps your mind racing through the night. Tidal waves of stress strangle your focus and keep you from achieving any meaningful progress, anywhere in your life. These troubling thoughts are villains that moved into your mind without permission and have become the worst roommates ever. They’ve taken over your life and head space. Everything feels out of control. Hope is nowhere to be found. Paralyzed, without direction or purpose, just getting out of bed feels like an accomplishment. This is becoming your new normal.

One of my favorite quotes from Alice in Wonderland is: "It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then." When we feel stuck in our world, it is so hard to see past our pain and frustration. My goal as a therapist is to guide clients down an intentional path of balance and healing. Our thoughts can be so powerful. Negative ones hold us captive and keep us in the dark, but positive thoughts have the ability to transform us.

I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Does it feel impossible to love, accept, or even just tolerate your body, weight, and/or shape in a world that is always telling you to be something other than what you are? Diet culture is everywhere, and it can be so confusing to know what, when, and how much to eat and how often and in what ways to move your body. Perhaps you are struggling with guilt and shame related to things you've heard or been taught about your body and food. If you want to move toward peace and freedom with food and to have a more neutral view of your body, please reach out!

I am person-centered & eclectic, pulling from modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Behavioral, and Dialectical Behavior Therapies.
The world has never been easy for kids and teens. Growing up while trying to figure out who they are and what they value in the midst of seeking approval from friends and family. This has been compounded in the past years by a global pandemic, halting or slowing social-emotional growth. Anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance use, and other mental health concerns are emerging from people of all ages. Counseling can help. Knowing there is someone to come alongside as your child or teen wrestles with the normal changes of life and any extra challenges that appear can bring hope to everyone.

I offer therapy utilizing Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) ; Eye Movement Desentization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness.
My clients often are experiencing a life that feels without meaning and control. A life that is filled with chronic stress. This stress results from conflict in our relationships and multiple roles in life. At other times, this stress is residue from unresolved life events that have depleted the ability to see through a lens of love. Life then naturally becomes driven by fear. If you are seeking to learn a way to create a life that feels worth living, despite any circumstance. I can teach you the way. The majority of my clients are experiencing anxiety, anger and depression in their daily life.

While I individualize sessions to the uniqueness of each client, I often utilize talk therapy techniques from several evidence-based practices, including DBT, CBT, and psychodynamic therapy, along with the use of art therapy techniques.
Whether you are going through a major life event that you would like to process, need someone to talk to about the everyday stressors of life, or anything in between, I am here for you. I have been working in the mental health and social work field for several years, where I most recently supported children and teens in the crisis intervention setting. Through this experience, I found a passion for working with teens and young adults to process life’s challenges, relationships, transitional periods, and more.

Accepting New Clients! To have someone open their heart in therapy and trust me with it, is truly an honor. Therapy can be hard. Often times people share things with me they haven’t shared with anyone else. Because of this, I believe the relationship between client and therapist is the most important factor in therapy and what I focus on building first with you. Moreover, I take an integrative approach to therapy, conceptualizing from psychodynamic and interpersonal theories while utilizing interventions from EFT, DBT, CBT and interpersonal theories. All of my work is grounded in multicultural and strength-based views.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
