It goes without saying that life can feel out of control at times. Many try to press on without help and no support. However, stress is like boiling water, when we put a lid on it, it boils harder. I am here to help you reduce the feeling of life being out of control or like you are about to boil over.

I also see individuals with anxiety, depression and other related problems, (including children, adolescents and teens) and those struggling with spiritual issues.
As we experience life and recount its events, we use stories. Often the problems we encounter and the stories we use to describe our life, become so entangled it is hard to separate ourselves from it all. Through therapy, it is my job to help you clearly see were you begin and the problems end, while empowering you to tell the story you want.

You may be struggling with a life transition, anxiety, depression, fears, or a trauma history that keeps resurfacing. You deserve a break. You deserve to be free and "un-stuck". It's time for you to take some time for yourself, make some changes, move forward, and live up to your potential. I am interested in your goals, where you are now, and how to help you get where you'd like to go.

Women and pre-marital couples have unique reasons for seeking counseling. You may be a woman dealing with the stressors from being a wife, a mom, a professional; you've forgotten who you are or even how to find balance. You've found yourself overwhelmed with anxiety and struggling in your relationships. Perhaps your relationship is new and you want to focus on it before taking the next step or find you're caught up in negative cycles of communication and need help identifying new cycles to rekindle your love for your spouse. Regardless of who you are, your desire to have a sense of self and security is a priority.

I've felt that anxiety of making the first phone call and it's okay that you're nervous! There are no hard and fast rules for what therapy looks like.
Are the things that once made you happy no longer making you happy? Have you been through a traumatic experience that left you feeling scared, lonely, or even doubting who you are? Maybe you’ve been through a series of little things that you believe shouldn’t be bothering you, but they are. Have you found yourself on Google trying to figure yourself out only to find article after article about “childhood trauma”? I feel you. You are not alone. Together, I believe we can reduce your suffering, find direction, and feel happiness once again. My office is a safe and affirming space for all LGBTQ+ people.

Somewhere along the way, you lost yourself. It happened so slowly that you barely realized it. Every time you spoke up at work, the voice in your head would criticize you, “You’re making a fool of yourself.” So, eventually, you stopped speaking up. After dates, you’d obsess over every interaction to the point where you’d be sick with worry. So, you decided it’s not worth it to keep dating. Little by little, you stopped doing things and receded further into yourself. You took fewer chances and felt fewer emotions. Every day, your world got smaller. You know you deserve more from life than this, but you’re unsure how to get it.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
