The people I love to work with are those that have tried to change so many times that they have almost given up hope. I love helping clients get to the actual root of their issues, so that they no longer desire old habits. I specialize in helping clients with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, Trauma/PTSD, burnout, addiction, and marital difficulties. I enjoy pre-marital or pre-engagement counseling. My primary mode of treatment is EFT for couples and IFS for individuals. I love IFS, because it heals childhood wounds so thoroughly and deeply, and because it enables the client to do the bulk of the healing.

Welcome! I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern passionate about working with individuals and couples seeking healing, restoration, and stabilization from interpersonal and relational distress. Navigating various life challenges throughout adulthood can bring about anxiety and stress. For individuals who have endured dysfunctional relationships, these effects may feel overwhelming. Some might experience feeling stuck, directionless, confused, enraged, depressed, anxious, and ashamed. However, there is hope.

You are doing a brave thing. Anxiety, panic attacks, and depression can play a role in keeping us from seeking help outside of our known comfort zone. But there is help available, and hope for a better life. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, and trauma and PTSD symptoms. We may cope in ways that work in the moment, but come back in the form of panic attacks, isolation, fatigue, lack of focus, appetite changes, difficulty staying motivated, and feeling constantly on edge or numb. If anxiety is hindering your quality of life, or your depression is too heavy to carry alone, welcome. This is a safe place to unpack these.

We are overcomers by nature. I am an overcomer, and you are too. Suffering is real, no matter what form it takes. I don't know what brings you here, but this I know for certain: you can overcome even the greatest of hurdles. There is life on the other side. There is hope on the other side. There is healing on the other side. It is my greatest honor to walk the journey with you, whatever that looks like. Your story matters. You make sense. You are worth investing in.

We don't have good words in the English Language for pain. We think of it as something that is almost completely physical. We assume that if someone can't point to a wound then they must not be in pain. Then when we try to express the pain we have to use words like depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, or addiction. Instead of just being able to say, "I am hurting, and I want to stop." My goal is to help you find ways to stop hurting. Healing is often painful itself, but there can be a life with less pain.

You've just found out your partner has betrayed you and you feel shocked and heartbroken. Research and reading countless articles and books to try and make sense out of it hasn’t worked and you're still hurting. It’s lonely and feels hopeless. You see your friends and wonder if you are the only one that's been betrayed. On the outside, no one would ever know, but on the inside, you fear your relationship never be the same and it has to be something you learn to accept. The frustrating part is that you had no idea and were completely blindsided. You thought you knew who your partner is, but now you're questioning everything.

Are you exhausted from living with substance misuse, sexual compulsivity, or the pain of trauma? Does it feel like no matter how hard you try, nothing seems to help? Having an experienced guide to help navigate the challenges in your healing journey can make all the difference. No matter the trauma or the shape addiction takes (drugs, alcohol, sex, porn, etc.), healing depends on addressing the underlying issues and restoring connection to our bodies, ourselves, others, and the world. As you begin to heal, the need to engage in addictive behavior lessens, ultimately resulting in natural, lifelong recovery.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
