My primary approach is person-centered focusing on attachment through a trauma-informed lens, identifying ones’ core beliefs, somatics, expressive art therapy, and EMDR.
It is my passion to work alongside individuals on issues related to the pervasive impacts of trauma. This includes childhood sexual abuse, attachment wounds, anxiety, panic, depression, self-esteem concerns, relational discord, infidelity, and grief. I am also drawn to offering support for those effected by the gaps in our systems related to military/families, as well as those struggling with postpartum related issues. My passion for these areas has driven me to help fill in those gaps through the support and psycho education that lacks in these important populations.

I provided integrative techniques using Art Therapy to provide a unique session for your children.
When it comes to mental health, it can be difficult to find the right match or feel like you are making the right choice, especially for your kids. As parents, you want to make the best choices for your children and set them up for a successful life and sometimes children and teens needs a little extra help. Do you have a child or teen whom you may feel needs extra tools to help with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations, time management, anger management, emotional regulation or has experienced trauma?

As a Clinician, I work with a mixed population of children and adults, across a wide range of treatment modalities. My youngest client is 3 years old and my oldest is 53 years old. I feel called to work with individuals who have been exposed to traumatic events in their lives. Trauma therapy allows children to communicate, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills, and learn a variety of ways of relating to others. In working with adults, I want to help you break through the barriers of your trauma experience that have hindered you in life. Do you desire to push past the pain, and find your healing?

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
