I have formal training in a variety of therapeutic techniques - including psychoanalytic psychotherapy, CBT, EMDR, mindfulness, play therapy, and Circle of Security Parenting.
Good therapy helps promote clarity and progress toward change. I believe that therapy can provide the safety needed for self-exploration and for support in times of stress. And I believe that this safety is created through a trusting therapeutic alliance, which I rely heavily on in my practice. As a clinical social worker, I provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults who have a broad range of reasons for seeking therapy - these may include anxiety, depression, family conflict, low self-esteem, relationship struggles, parenting concerns, trauma, and loss.

Imagine being full of joy, presence, and gratitude. Life can be overbearing at times with all of its troubles. It may feel like you're no longer a driver, but a passenger in your own life. You have difficulty seeing beyond the here and now, unable to find solutions, and you can't come back to a sense of self because everything else seems to be keeping you from peace. You're wanting to take control and live a life you've been dreaming of, a life free of anxiety, depression, stress, and shame.

"We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are." -Anais Nin per Talmudic origin. We must create things twice; once in our minds, and once articulated. When we think our thoughts, it lights up one part of the brain, and when we speak our thoughts, it lights up a different part of the brain. There is often something very different when we articulate our thoughts, and they change in some way. Talking out these experiences in a narrative way assists us in making sense of how we feel about those experiences.

I help women and femme folks explore and fully embrace who they are, ultimately paving the way for a life filled with integrity, meaning, fulfillment, and joy. My practice is a safe, inclusive space that encourages self-exploration and healing. We'll dive deep into your psyche, address any inner conflicts/unhelpful patterns, hold space for your tender spots, and help you learn to love all the things that make you "you". And as you heal yourself, you'll have no choice but to show up differently in the world and in your relationships, leading to change that truly benefits you and everyone around you.

As a perfectionist, overachieving woman, you have worked hard to get to where you are today. Hyper-independence is your middle name. But even with all your achievements, you still worry it's not enough. You constantly push yourself to be better and achieve more, rarely stopping to celebrate your wins. You struggle with feelings of self-doubt, anxiety, and overwhelm, and find it difficult to turn off your thoughts and relax. You feel like you are constantly on the brink of burn out. You may have unresolved childhood trauma that continues to impact you. You know something needs to change, you just aren't sure of what or how.

Life is incredibly difficult. Add onto that that we, as humans, are complex beings living in a all-the-more complex social, economic, and environmental world and it’s no secret why we often feel off-track and unfulfilled. Being a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I aim to co-explore the depths of each person I meet, to harness them with the personal awareness, tools and responsibility needed to feel more capable, alive and authentic in their lives.

I find that I work best with those who are looking for a change from the extremely clinical-feeling approach to therapy. I believe therapy shouldn't feel hierarchical, nor alienating- you and I are on the same level here. We’re collaborating to help you reach a point in your life where you feel stable and content. I’m not here to judge you or tell you what to do, but rather to work as a friendly voice to help you connect missing pieces and wade through life’s challenges with more confidence.

Most of my clients come to me in crisis, looking for immediate solutions. Others come with long term goals, a desire to make more of their lives, avoid mistakes, overcome negative emotions, make friends, survive losses. In most cases, after a period of history-taking, data analysis, diagnosis, it becomes possible for the client to develop insight into the causes of his or her distress, and to establish some stratagems and goals that lead to improvement or elimination of the problems. Put simply, in my clinic psychotherapy is aimed at helping the client exchange unproductive patterns of thought and behavior for a better life.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
