There are several things in my life which drive me to be a counselor. My own past with it struggles, acceptances, failures, and successes drive me to do what I do. I am able to sit in dark places, empathize with struggle and loneliness, and challenge ways of thinking and behaving from a non-judgmental place. I love the unique position a counselor has to problem solve through the failures, walk the uphill road to recovery, and celebrate the success and growth that comes out of the journey.

I am a Baby Boomer. I realize I have probably lived three-quarters of my life, during which I have experienced most of the situations one can experience throughout one's life. I still have a positive outlook on the time I have left, and I want all of my generation to feel that their presence on this earth has made a difference. I have counseled families who promised to "never put Mom in a nursing home". I have counseled those who never thought they would end up there. Retirees, divorcees, widows/widowers, empty nesters, mid-life crises, what's left now?, all are welcome. Latter life situations are my specialty.

“I feel stuck…I’m not sure what to do…I don’t feel like myself…I'm overwhelmed…” Do any of those thoughts sound familiar? Are you lacking self-confidence, not sure of who you are, and trying to adjust to various life changes (university, the pandemic, new baby, new job, etc…)? If you are ready for a change, I can help you say “bye” to that mean critical voice inside your head. I will help you to slow down, walk through a journey of self-discovery, & give you the tools needed to have the audacity to be yourself.

I have been working in the field of mental healthcare since 2012. While my experience has granted me the privilege of working with a variety of ages and issues, I am most passionate about working with trauma, anger management, panic, anxiety, cutting and self-harming, dissociation, and domestic violence. I have training in EMDR, a specialized therapy developed for the treatment of Post-traumatic Stress and other trauma related concerns. I also frequently utilize mindfulness and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills training in my approach as a way to build resilience and healthy coping.

Our world expects so much from people and we are often able to do it all, for a while. Sometimes expectations, both ours and others, smother us and leave us feeling hopeless. We might not be able to move forward in our career, despite excelling in our work. Sometimes we bury emotions, thinking I’ll get to that later, which may result in feeling overwhelmed or feeling nothing at all. Perhaps the demands of career, family, and caring for others leave us feeling exhausted and guilt-ridden. Possibly what has always worked, doesn’t seem to work anymore. Peace may feel out of reach.

On the outside it looks like you have it all together. But on the inside you never feel good enough and the voice in your head is quick to remind you of all the ways you’re falling short. You've spent the last however-many-years trying to keep everything together, but it’s exhausting, and you don’t think you can do it anymore. You're tired of giving so much to everyone else while you continue to come last on your list. Not anymore. It's time for a change.

As a counselor, my goal is to work collaboratively with clients in helping them find ways to get back on their feet. Whether it is a habit you are trying to quit, a past experience that continues to bother you, a conflict in a relationship that never seems to resolve, or crippling anxiety and depression, I believe we all have complex and unique stories that require thoughtful and individualized care. I take it as a great privilege to sit with people as they navigate their journey and would be honored to work with you.

Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. That knowledge is what led me to become a therapist ... how effective and life-changing therapy can be. I start where you, the client, is and we make a treatment plan together to reach the goals you would like to achieve. We will develop a working hypothesis that may change over time as new information is obtained. Many mental health issues begin with an event and the mental health issue, be it anxiety, panic attacks, depression, anger, unrelated phobia, facial tic, chronic pain, avoidant behavior, dysfunctional relationship pattern, stress and/or insomnia is the resulting symptom.

Are you experiencing stressors in your life that are overwhelming and don’t know where to turn for support? We all reach a point in life where we feel stuck and lost, especially when the relationships around us are painful or when unexpected change happens. I believe that everything you are experiencing makes sense in your holistic context, but this does not have to be the end of your story. I am passionate about helping children, adolescents, and adult individuals, couples in all stages of life, and families seeking help with life transitions, grief, trauma, identity issues, and relational conflict.
