EFT, EMDR, Somatic, CSAT, and Attachment theory guide my work.
Do you struggle with sex getting more daily attention than your closest relationships? Maybe a previous infidelity or betrayal continues to plague the relationship? Many of my clients struggle to make sense of emotions, but long to feel safe and connected to friends and family. Despite our best protective strategies, emotional experiences will not be ignored. Over a lifespan, adaptive protective strategies of the past become our prisons. Mal-adaptive in the present, old and helpful strategies of the past form the barriers to trusting safe and connected relationships we all desperately desire.

We have been trained in the Healing Our Core Issues Institute, which focuses on family of origin, attachment, somatic processing and body work, mindfulness, EMDR, and neuroscience.
Trauma expert Peter Levine stated, "Trauma is perhaps the most avoided, ignored, belittled, denied, misunderstood, and untreated cause of human suffering." At Be Found Counseling, we believe this whole heartedly. We see people, just like you, every day who come in asking the question, "why am I like this?" We know you want to live fully, without feeling the weight of anxiety, depression, overwhelm, hurt of the past and the struggle in the present. We know you want to heal. We know you want to feel whole.

I work from a somatic orientation, bringing in the foundational belief that repairing our relationships with our bodies is intrinsic to the healing process.
I primarily work with individuals with histories of complex or developmental trauma, as well as acute trauma. I appreciate working with people struggling with or recovering from disordered eating, body images issues, or diet culture. I frequently work with anxiety and worry, and have experience working specifically with health anxiety and panic. I welcome anyone who feels hesitant (or maybe even skeptical!) towards their emotions or therapy; often, our greatest fears and desires are hiding under ambivalence and doubt, and I love treading into those waters with people.

I help you hone somatic, mindfulness, and cognitive connections and tap into your intuition from a non-religious perspective.
Have you experienced harm through affiliation with a community of faith and now struggle with feelings of guilt and loneliness? Were you negatively impacted by the Purity Culture: sexual dysfunction, self-doubt, difficulty with intimate relationships? Has your exodus resulted in alienation from once-close loved ones, leaving you feeling adrift? Perhaps the transition out of your religious community happened years ago but the remnants of it linger in your mind, affecting your everyday-interactions, manifesting as anger, anxiety, and insomnia, even disconnection from self. I can help you process this and reconnect with you.

I draw from trauma-informed and somatic-oriented therapeutic approaches and lean heavily on mindfulness.
Hi there, I’m Betsy. I believe that while pain and loss are inescapable facets of the human experience, we can integrate them into the rest of our story when we connect to the safe presence of another. My guiding assumption as a therapist is that you have an inner healing intelligence inside of you, and it’s our collaborative work to cultivate your relationship to them by processing old wounds and gently examining that which no longer serves you as you slowly come to reclaim your whole self. I work with adults who have experienced complex trauma, religious harm and deconstruction, end of life, and grief and loss.

I have advanced training in DBT, EMDR, and Somatic therapy.
I'm extremely passionate about helping others live to their truest potential. Life has a way of putting many of us in a chronic fight or flight mode, and I strive to bring people back to their space of equilibrium. That place you go when you close your eyes and think about a life without as much chaos doesn't have to be a mere daydream, we can work together to make it reality.

I use an integrative, multicultural, trauma-informed approach that is mainly based on, but not exclusive to, person-centered, cognitive behavioral, and somatic techniques.
I seek to destigmatize mental healthcare for all populations and provide a safe space where my clients feel seen and heard to navigate their relationships with themselves and others. As a South Asian American and daughter of immigrants, I have first hand experience of the deep effects that family of origin and cultural conflicts have on your lived experiences. I provide support for my clients in being their authentic selves and help them develop the skills they need to thrive. I want my clients to have an empathetic space to explore their challenges, process their thoughts and emotions, and experience healing.

My approach is rooted in therapies such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Brainspotting, and Somatic Experiencing to address racial issues, complex trauma and PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
You're carrying the weight of navigating a world that often feels like it wasn't built for you. It can be brutal, the constant feeling of being on edge, the unseen barriers you face daily, and the overwhelming expectation to fit the “mold”. You're not alone. I'm here to help you heal, reclaim your life, and thrive. I understand that navigating these challenges can be incredibly difficult and that they can leave deep emotional scars. As a therapist working with individuals facing these issues, I deeply understand how these challenges can manifest and uniquely impact your life, and I recognize the interconnectedness between them.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
