Hello and welcome! I believe we all have inherent worth and value, but our perception of our worth can be impacted by trauma, stress, and mental health concerns. Life is often challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. I utilize attachment-focused, experiential, somatic, mindfulness, and other modalities to promote healing and realignment with our authentic selves. I specialize in helping people navigate trauma processing, substance use and addiction, eating disorders, codependency, anxiety, depression, relationship and intimacy issues, and family of origin concerns. I enjoy working with adults, teens, couples, and families.

I think of therapy as a way to free ourselves from obstacles that prevent us from moving forward with our lives. Challenges such as problems at work, difficult relationships or the sudden impact of a traumatic event. I am genuinely interested in your story. I would like to partner with you to help you find clarity, wisdom, strength and support so you can identity what needs to shift in your life to create positive change.

Life can be difficult at times. Perhaps you are wanting to make some changes in your life, or relationship. I believe that most of us CAN make the changes we deeply want to, particularly if we have a kind and knowledgeable advocate to that process. You may have reservations about asking for support. Know that when you do, you are bravely moving yourself forward to a better tomorrow. I strive to be a compassionate, trustworthy, and enthusiastic partner to my clients' growth processes.

"I'm TIRED." I hear this all the time from my clients and/or their parents. Life has gotten so busy that we are flying from one thing to another without a chance to catch our breath. Maybe you are tired of fighting with your child to get them to behave. Maybe you are tired of losing track of things and time. Maybe you are tired of wondering if you made the right choice or if you'll ever be good enough. Maybe you are tired of being haunted by trauma. Maybe you are tired of taking care of everyone else without a break for yourself. Or maybe you're just plain tired. I get it! And there's good news: therapy can help.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for working with adults struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, substance use, and adjustment to difficult life transitions. I believe that every individual has inherent strengths that can be powerful catalysts for positive change- although these can often feel just out of reach when we try to carry our struggles on our own. Through a collaborative and client-centered approach, I work with you to uncover and utilize these strengths to facilitate growth and healing that lasts long after therapy has ended.

I have always said a willing client is my favorite kind of client. It is likely you do not want to feel unwanted emotions, you don't even have to engage in self-improvement but the question is... are you willing to take a leap of faith towards personal healing?

Whether you are new to therapy and/or recovery, or are struggling with new obstacles or relapse, welcome. Sometimes part of us wants to make a change and part of us holds us back. Sometimes we can connect the dots to our past and sometimes it feels less clear why we feel and react the way we do. When we are feeling stuck, we can feel feel anxious, overwhelmed, disoriented or uncertain. Know it is possible to move through the discomfort and regain our sense of empowerment. Our process may feel at times like a struggle but we don't have to go through it alone.

My goal, as a therapist, is to help others create their own happiness by empowering strengths and learning to overcome weaknesses. Depression and feeling overwhelmed in work, relationships, and daily activities is a common experience for most of us. People often need help in resolving conflict with others, wish to stop a bad habit, or desire to understand their self-worth.

I have been practicing in the Nashville area for over 15 years. In addition to completing specialized training as a mediator, I also utilize NVC to bring skillful communication techniques into my practice, have Level II EMDR training for trauma, and have experience in assisting people in difficult relationships, addiction, and life transition. I believe each person is unique, has their own set of strengths, needs and values; I believe therapy is a collaborative effort between client and therapist.

You feel that no matter how much you do, how well you do it, how much you give, that it is not enough. And if that is ever in doubt your mind is ready to remind you that it is, in fact, not enough. That you are not enough. Maybe you find yourself trying to navigate daily life experiences perfectly. Or engaging in unhealthy coping skills to make it through the day. Or withdrawing from the people you care about because you don’t feel connected. You are exhausted, overwhelmed, and defeated with trying to silence that inner voice that whispers-or yells-‘not enough.’

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
