Hello! My name is Liz, and I'm not your average therapist. I am multi state licensed as a Mental Health Counselor with a Masters degree from Stetson University. I work with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, grief and trauma. When I'm not being a therapist, you can usually find me somewhere outdoors, in a tattoo parlor, binge watching a true crime series or getting coffee. I believe that it's important to take care of yourself both inside and outside of therapy, and I'm here to help you do that.

I have a number of speciality areas (including Depression, Anxiety, Addictions, & Creativity) and have worked in a variety of settings including Vanderbilt University's Psychological and Counseling Center.
Together we will find the right path, and right set of practical tools, to help you overcome obstacles and become your best self. After over a decade-and-a-half working in mental health, I am skilled in the latest, evidence-based therapies available (e.g., Relational Mindfulness and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy). But no single approach works for all people at all times and, remaining flexible, we will create a safe therapeutic environment with the best combination of techniques that works for you. So many different psychotherapies exist today because there is no one approach that works at all times.

I work with people who struggle with negative self-image, deep sadness, anxiety, shame, and more.
You put your best foot forward but struggle to acknowledge the good in your life. You put on a brave face and constantly show up for others but neglect your own needs. You have been conditioned to say “everything is fine” and hide how you really feel. Sometimes you may even feel like you don’t deserve joy.

The long list of issues my clients bring into therapy are: Grief and loss, Depression, Anxiety, Relationship Issues (Trust, Intimacy, Communication), Substance Use Issues, Trauma, Parenting Issues, Adjustment Issues, Anger Problems, Divorce Recovery, Self-sabotaging Behaviors, Loneliness, Shame, and Fear.
Meeting with a therapist is an important part of overall health, not to mention, the best way to sort out difficult life circumstances. The work I do with my clients is focused on bringing them to a place of "something better" in their lives. I don't have any magical answers, but I can provide validation, fresh perspectives, a touch of guidance and a completely safe and non-judgmental environment for you to resolve the issues that have you on this site looking for a therapist.

Not accepting new clients
Starting therapy can feel daunting, but taking that first step is crucial. I understand how challenging it is to share your struggles with someone new, which is why I prioritize creating a culturally sensitive, authentic, and non-judgmental environment specifically for women and BIPOC clients. Many of my clients face issues such as anxiety, depression, stress management, racial stress and trauma, self-esteem challenges, self-criticism, and imposter syndrome. These struggles can be particularly intense for individuals in demanding professional roles and lead to intense feelings and unwanted behaviors.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
