I have been an alcohol/drug counselor for 40 years.in various modalities and was a School Psychologist for 26 years. It takes courage to face life problems, alcohol/drug abuse can be especially difficult because of the potential 'stigma' involved. They are ,however, life issues that can actually "be fixed"..My counseling approach tends to be more "food for thought" rather than lecturing , it is a journey in self-understanding for the individual. Learn to understand how defense mechanisms work to defend the negative behaviors in the individuals eyes.It is not easy, but the new quality of life is worth the fight.
