I work with youth that have big personalities! They are complex, intense, passionate, independent, curious and very loving. They are also very smart, charismatic, and creative. They are all or nothing! One minute they are laughing, the next they are screaming. These children experience reduced filtering and advanced processing of information which causes them to have a hypervigilant stress response system. This affects learning, motivation, memory, the pursuit of pleasure, and self-regulation. This neurobiological quality is behind their intensity and originality. However, the right environment is key for their healthy functioning!
I help parents create the right environment for their youth through parent coaching designed to explore ways to reduce any possible stressors to improve their behavioral challenges through the use of relational parenting techniques. As part of this process, I also help parents understand the child’s neurobiology and its effect of their emotions and thinking.
