If you are looking for a therapist probably you are feeling stuck or helpless, maybe things are not just working for you in life. If you are looking for relief from such distress you have come to the right place. Psychotherapy, or “talk therapy” helps you gain insight into the complex interaction between your inner workings and external reality that is causing you stress. While pain, grief, and suffering are inevitable in life, being miserable is optional. You can either remain a part of the problem or choose to become a part of the solution, through the process of psychotherapy.

I have a strong interest in helping individuals in the midst of life transition and/or turmoil find vision, connection and greater meaning for their lives. Life transitions can range from the dark and difficult times when you are unsure what to do, to the excitement of new opportunities. As a licensed clinical psychologist with a masters degree in theology, I enjoy connecting the personal ways individuals make sense of their lives with the larger body of knowledge achieved through clinical training and the current and evolving knowledge base of the psychology and neuroscience field.

You may notice feeling overwhelmed, not yourself, or experiencing psychological challenges. We all have many parts - some react, some retreat, some feel stuck, some resign to life's circumstances. These parts of us are well-intended, but can overshadow, inhibiting our true Self - reacting to stories rather than responding to facts. Obstacles, hardships, stress, and psychological challenges don't have to define you. We will help you build upon strengths, gain new perspective, redefine stories that no longer fit, and form a stronger, healthier connection with self and others.

I am a licensed psychologist with 20+ yrs of experience. My practice focuses on working with women at major transition points in their lives. I believe we come into this world with unique gifts that provide a framework for who we are. That framework is further shaped - in both healthy & painful ways - by life experiences with family, peers, loved ones, work, identity, & society. Psychotherapy offers the opportunity to understand how we've come to be the person we are today, make peace with the past, recognize our unique gifts, and move into the future with a clearer vision of the life we want to create and how to get there.

Do you struggle with feeling anxious and overwhelmed more often than you’d like? Is it affecting your ability to connect in relationships and work effectively? Maybe you feel frazzled and out-of-control, have experienced a significant loss or entered into a life change that feels challenging. Managing relationships, work, and life transitions (including adjustment to college, parenthood, menopause, divorce, etc), particularly in an ever-changing, often overstimulating world, might feel impossible but there are ways to work through these experiences and even use them to your advantage!

Hi I’m Dr. Seyi Amosu. I'm a therapist with a background in community organizing. In other words, I am a co-conspirator in change. I help people re-connect with their curiosity, intuition, and imagination. Therapy is a process of coming home to yourself: connecting with your intuition, growing trust in your instincts and developing compassion for your emotions. Together we ask the question: how can you get free? As a therapist, I focus on changing clients’ relationship to their problems. Together, we identify patterns that reinforce pain internalized from the outside world and discover opportunities for agency. Let’s get free y’all.

Do you find yourself spiraling with anxiety? If you're having excessive worry about your health, experiencing more panic attacks, social anxiety or struggling with uncontrollable worry about everyday things, you're not alone. These challenges can be incredibly overwhelming and often lead to seeking constant reassurance from loved ones or compulsively searching for answers online. Maybe you’ve tried distracting yourself or avoiding situations, but nothing seems to provide lasting relief. It’s understandable to feel frustrated and exhausted by these cycles of anxiety.

Thank you for visiting my page! I primarily work with older adolescents, young adults, and adults who are dealing with a variety of personal challenges that may include depression, trauma, stress, anxiety, addiction, relationship stress, school/work issues, and navigating life’s changes. Within social work theories, I gravitate towards the ecological and systems theories, which focus on how one's environment and unique experiences shape individual functioning and adaptation. My social work background helps me to integrate this holistic orientation into my mental health therapy practice.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
