Counseling is most effective when it is interactive. Whether clients are working on reducing the effects of stress, anxiety, or trauma, teaching clients how to control their responses to their environment is very important. All of us want to feel like we are in control of ourselves at a minimum. When we learn to control our responses in stressful situations in a manner that is acceptable for us, we can begin to feel content the majority of the time.
My specialty training is in trauma including EMDR. I have experience with working with clients on managing stress, anxiety issues, domestic violence, PTSD, and many types of trauma.
I believe in teaching clients what happens to our bodies when we experience difficult events, and how the physiological changes that occur to survive these events affect our emotional well-being. The great news is we have the ability to retrain our brains’ and bodies’ responses to our environment to begin to heal and feel more content.
