From anxiety, depression, school-related issues, to suicidal ideations, these struggles can often feel overwhelming.
Parents of younger children, I understand the importance of early intervention and the critical role it plays in their long-term development. I specialize in working with children and adolescents ages 5-17, who are struggling with mental health and behavioral health issues. By partnering together, we can unlock your child's full potential and set them on a path towards success.

Life is hard. There is no question about that. Yet each of us possess unique talents and gifts intended to enhance our individual journey. Unfortunately we often are so preoccupied with determining how we "measure up" to others, instead of focusing on making the best of our journey. Or sometimes life’s challenges can cause us to lose focus on all that we are and all that we have. Creating a shift in thinking to appreciate and utilize the uniqueness of self is essential to becoming one’s best. And ultimately, isn’t that what we are all truly seeking?

Many individuals find themselves struggling with how to get through difficult life events. Maybe you find yourself turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms through the use of drugs, alcohol, or relationships. These events may make it difficult to do even to smallest of tasks, like getting out of bed in the morning or eating. Sometimes it may manifest into not wanting to leave the house, and being fearful of social situations. Taking the first step towards therapy is taking the first step towards bettering yourself and the quality of your life. But what separates me from the rest of the therapists that your looking at?

Being a teenager has never been harder. Depression and anxiety are real and no joke. I am with you and for you. These are statements I make everyday to validate the very legitimate concerns my clients bring to me. It may be cliché to say it is an honor to walk alongside folks as they walk and talk out their issues, but the funny thing about clichés is that they are based in truth. I have the best job in the world.

Child and early adolescent therapy is my passion. I have helped many children and their families. I aim to equip parents and guardians of the children they care deeply for with tools to give them lasting success. I believe that counseling provides a safe place for children to explore their inner thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or criticism. Counseling also provides an opportunity to begin the process of healing from traumas, loss, strained relationships, a depressed episode, excessive worrying, or stress from everyday life.

Tailoring the approach of therapy to best meet the client’s needs. The reason for this eclectic approach is that everyone has their own life story and different experiences. Samantha’s approach is rooted in person centered therapy, which believes that the client is the “expert” on their life story. Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
