My ideal client is someone who is motivated to make changes in themselves and committed to the therapy process. The outcome of treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in this process, which may, at times, result in some emotional discomfort. Remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events can bring on strong feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, etc. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstance will change. I can promise to support you and do my very best to understand you and help identify makes you better than you were yesterday.
My counseling approach includes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). CBT challenges your thinking patterns and how these can influence your emotions and behaviors. DBT guides you to develop mindfulness skills, distress tolerance skills, interpersonal effectiveness skills and emotional regulation skills.
My goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment, which may help foster growth in self-awareness and help you feel empowered in the therapeutic process. I believe for you to make lasting progress in therapy, it is important to establish a strong therapeutic relationship through genuine understanding, empathy and acceptance.
