My approach to therapy is integrative, drawing from a variety of clinical theory, techniques, and empirical research ranging from psychoanalysis to cognitive behavioral therapy, tailoring the treatment to meet the unique needs of the individual. Ultimately, I believe, and research shows, that the effectiveness of therapy across approaches depends on the quality of the relationship. That is, it has to be “a good fit” and occur in the context of a safe, supportive, compassionate and confidential environment.
Because the relationship is so important, people should interview several potential therapists. I found it can be very helpful and a good predictor of successful treatment outcome, to get a sense of whether we will be a good match.
