My experience working in high school sports, business coaching, and as a mentor for elementary school students gives me a more holistic and dynamic view of people.
I recognize that counseling can be extremely uncomfortable for many people, especially men. My goal is simply to give you the space to share and be heard. I am here to help you achieve growth by learning to work through your issues rather than just providing solutions or advice. I truly care about your well-being and I am passionate about serving you.

As a former Ohio State wrestler, one of my greatest passions is in Sports Counseling - helping athletes and families reach their potential where anger, negative self talk and fear can often times speak so loudly. I help others realize they can silence those voices and take ownership of their actions and emotions so sports, relationships and life can be fun!

I welcome questions, particularly for those who don't understand the separation of sports mental performance from traditional talk therapy.
I support driven athletes looking to use their mental performance to elevate sports. I was a collegiate rugby and hockey player, high school soccer player, long-time Irish Dancer, and current Olympic Weightlifter. So I understand sport! I'm ready to support you if you are passionate about your sport, and want to grow. This may come as a result of not knowing how to navigate injury, experiencing a lack of playing time, an overall lack of confidence, or frustration at the repetitiveness of the process. You aren't someone who struggles with motivation, just someone who needs coaching as much on the brain game as the rest of the game.

For 5+ years, in various settings I have supported incredible people through eating disorders, suicide ideations, anxiety, depression, sports, and many more life transitions.
My job isn’t to make you or your child feel “fixed” (whatever that even means); it’s to help them or you figure out how to face what’s in front of them/you and come out stronger on the other side! I know that life can be confusing, stressful, and even overwhelming at times, but I’m here to help you/them find your/their way through it! My approach is all about balance: we’ll dive deep into what’s going on in your life and your mind, but we’ll also take the time to laugh, have real conversations, and maybe even have some fun while we're at it!

My focus is truly about helping people. We all experience challenges in our lives and feel out of balance from time to time. I believe my role is to help people identify challenges and discover methods to address those challenges-returning balance in their lives. I have treated adolescents, adults and the geriatric population- both in the hospital setting and in general practice. Recently, I completed a certificate course in Sports Social Work. This has expanded my practice to include a special focus for athletes, not only to enhance performance but to address specific needs of athletes.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
