Problems in our love relationship impact every aspect of life - health, parenting, friendships, business & spirituality.
Do conversations with your partner end in major arguments? Perhaps your partner lacks empathy and emotion. Or just doesn't listen. Are you feeling misunderstood or disappointed? Are you feeling the pain of betrayal? Maybe you're in a new relationship wanting to get it right from the start, to do things differently the 2nd time around. Or perhaps you want to focus on "you", to find your best self as you navigate what can feel like a complicated world? To find life-balance, love, joy & adventure, on your own or in a relationship. What is your soul longing for? Are you ready to discover the best, fully integrated version of "you"?

Bridging the gap between Psychology & Spirituality, I am in service to those whose trauma histories are causing issues in their daily lives and specifically in their relationships. We are meant for connection. Trauma disrupts that. It also causes negative energy patterns that imprint on our lives and impact our wellbeing as well as our ability to create the life that we truly desire. If I am unable to see you personally, I will match you with one of my highly skilled associate clinicians. Dr. Dolan

My approach is intuitive, direct, and rooted in contemporary psychology, neuroscience, and non-dogmatic spirituality.
I believe that self-acceptance and self-understanding are fundamental to meaningful change and that each of us has an innate healing capacity and ability to thrive. Sometimes, unresolved memories or traumas, anxiety, depression, self-criticism, identity issues, cultural conditioning or daily stressors can stand in the way of our sense of vitality and efficacy in life. I provide clients with a supportive, non-judgmental space (with a bit of humor when appropriate) to process psychological distress and get to the root of what is keeping you from orienting toward more authenticity and balance.

***CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS*** With a history of working with men from all walks of life, including athletes, first responders, and students, it is clear to me that many of us are taught to separate our hearts and our heads in order to navigate our lived experience. We learn that emotions are not to be trusted, indeed that they are to be suspended if we are to make intelligent decisions. Along with this mistrust of emotion I often encounter the harmful effects of fatherlessness or abusive/neglectful father figures, which damages our understanding of masculinity and how that masculinity expresses itself in daily life.

Dara's psychotherapy practice is dedicated to helping young adults work through challenges related to this phase of life. Young adulthood is a time of great opportunities related to building satisfying relationships, careers and establishing one's own path. Along the way many get stuck in indecision, doubts and fears. For others, stress and unresolved issues can lead to mental health challenges including depression, anxiety and addictions. Expectations of others and culture can contribute to the pressures and sense of isolation. Working collaboratively with his patients, Dara brings empathy and compassion to work.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
