As a somatic & IFS informed therapist, I teach practical skills to help you face & release trapped stress & emotions from your body, so you can begin to love all parts of yourself.
I believe the ability to heal already exists in you, waiting to be uncovered from beneath past protective patterns that no longer serve you. Maybe you're successful & functioning on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Your mind overthinks & your body is tense. From past trauma or current stress, part of you feels broken, not enough, unworthy, or unlovable. You already know this shame, but aren't aware of other parts of you. Those that know how to rest, relax, self-care, balance emotions, & love yourself. You hope you can befriend your own mind, body, & spirit as allies instead of enemies.

I take a collaborative approach with clients that includes transparency, experiential techniques, attachment theory, somatic work (mind & body), trauma, and narrative/story work.
Have you ever noticed yourself feeling "stuck" in your thoughts, feelings, or behaviors? Do you experience an internal, exhausting, tug-of-war between your mind and body? This can feel overwhelming and lonely, leaving many people feeling powerless. This is a common feeling, one that I myself have experienced. Painful experiences, significant life changes, relationships, or past memories can begin to feel as though they have great power over us and the people we want to be. I am passionate about helping people name those thoughts, feelings, and memories in a safe relationship to begin the journey of healing and empowerment.

I use a combination of traditional psychotherapy, somatic techniques and hypnotherapy to allow you to experience the deep transformation you are seeking in your life.
Flipping through the latest Netflix releases, you search endlessly for the next "binge-worthy" series to numb you out for the rest of the weekend. This has been your default for far too long. You know all of the things you are “supposed” to be doing. You’ve tried all the self-help tricks, but you feel stuck in your head and unable to move forward in your life. You’ve had glimmers of the life you want before, but it always seems just out of reach.

As a Somatic Experiencing Therapist (body-based trauma work) I support clients through the trauma events of their lives.
Most of us have seasons of distress or relational stress in which we need new perspectives and support. Sometimes old hurts play into the immediate conflict. We may try to work everything out on our own, but often that is just not happening or not even possible. That is where talk therapy comes in. It is all about support for the present and hope for the future as clients deconstruct and reconstruct the pieces of their story. The renewal and redemption of that story is very often a key to successful therapy.

I enjoy working with people of various backgrounds, especially adults and teens in the LGBTQ+ community and individuals with a history of trauma. Using a mix of evidence-based interventions like EMDR, Internal Family Systems, along with a somatic, multicultural and feminist lens, I aim to provide a safe, supportive environment where you can explore all the parts of yourself. I believe the key to progress in therapy is curiosity and commitment to change, and my goal as your therapist is to walk alongside you as you discover your own personal power!

I use mainly EMDR, somatic, and emotion-focused treatment modalities.
The deepest goal of counseling is learning about yourself by teaching me about you. This idea can be daunting. You might be asking yourself, “What will I learn? Am I ready? What will this journey be like?” Sometimes starting the process is the hardest part! The beauty of counseling is that the journey doesn’t have to be taken alone. When you find a therapist that fits well, it can feel less like stumbling through a dark forest and more like forging a path of your own. No matter what brings you to therapy, feeling empowered, safe, and understood through the process can make all the difference in the world.

My orientation is grounded in a body-based (somatic) and mindfulness-centered approach.
I believe that the therapeutic process is about co-creating a safe enough space to explore what is happening under the surface and to develop embodied compassion for ourselves in the process. I am committed to showing up to this work with curiosity, kindness, and presence to support you to be more spacious with yourself and your internal experiences. I bring an awareness of the impacts of systems (patriarchy, racism, transphobia, etc) on our bodies and minds. I support exploration of how systemic oppression and individual traumas and wounds overlap. We work together to find compassion, curiosity, hope, and kindness.

I enjoy working with clients and developing a relationship by actively listening, advocating, and assisting in change through evidence based practices while providing a safe space for healing and growth.

My approach combines traditional models of therapy through a somatic lens.
For some healing and growth can be a difficult experience. This is especially true if you have been in therapy before or have tried various treatment modalities and still feel like something is missing. Self-improvement takes time. Too much too fast can, in fact, be traumatic. My goal is to help you slow it down; to allow time for your process to unfold and integrate at a pace that creates lasting change.

In my work, I use somatic parts work, a compassion-centered, bottom-up approach to healing.
I am here to support individuals from all walks of life, including diverse backgrounds, gender identities, and sexual orientations. My focus is particularly on trauma, men, and male-identified adults navigating with issues related to masculinity. Trauma affects our sense of safety, self, and our ability to manage emotions and relationships. It can come from painful experiences or from the absence of essential positive experiences, like warmth and acceptance. To cope with trauma, we might disconnect from parts of ourselves and adapt in ways that help us survive, but this can also create a sense of distance from who we truly are.

I have training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) which provides me with a somatic (body) framework for working with anxiety and emotions.
Do you find yourself longing for a deeper connection with yourself and others? You want close relationships and yet these very relationships become a source of pain? Many people find their way to therapy feeling lost, confused, and alone. For me, a most valuable aspect of therapy is connecting with a caring other and being able to undo the loneliness that one feels in their experience. Feeling connected in therapy allows individuals to access important core emotions and gain a deeper sense of themselves. My goal is that people leave therapy with a renewed sense of vitality and a coherent narrative of who they are.

I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, which essentially means that instead of connecting brain to brain; I connect to your body directly and let your system direct our work together.
Building resiliency isn't always about overcoming the mountain sized obstacles. Sometimes, its about overcoming the desire to stay in bed all day, or have popcorn for dinner the fifth day in a row, or have just one more drink at the end of the day. Trauma, and its positive counter-part- Healing, is within each of us. Cultivating a positive support system and partnership is all about accessing the natural power you hold within yourself. Within each individual, and couple, embracing healing is possible. I believe in empowering people to build a relationship with themselves in such a way that they develop internal trust and reliance.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
