Traditional talk therapy can be helpful in some ways however, emotionally overwhelming experiences are stored in a separate part of the brain-a place that is not accessed through language. Experiential therapies allow us to reprocess moments from the past in order to live freely in the present. As a certified experiential therapist, I am trained in EMDR, brainspotting, and other modalities focused on sensory-motor and somatic healing. Each therapeutic experience is individualized to meet the needs of the client or family.

My background includes using somatic therapy, nervous system regulation, & narrative therapy helps us align the mind & body into harmony.
I believe in the power of the mind-body connection to heal and transform. In my practice, I integrate somatic therapy, attachment theory, and nervous system regulation to help clients reduce anxiety and cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness and well-being. Your own exhaustion might feel like you are becoming removed from your loved one and just going through the motions. Some days it’s an effort to do the simplest tasks, and even a full night of sleep won’t take care of how you feel. Are you ready to let joy into your life again? In therapy we will help make sense of your emotions while lessen fear, guilt, and anxiety.

Ideally, I'd treat clients with a trauma history. Someone with a mixture of short and long term trauma. My ideal client is eager to learn and wants to find a way to become their own safe space. Someone who wants to learn how to set and maintain healthy boundaries, find out their triggers, and treat themselves with patience.

I have been an art psychotherapist since 1982. I currently work with adolescents and adults, using a trauma informed integrated approach for the impact of developmental trauma with its comorbidity, dissociation, and attachment issues. Art gives voice to what is stored implicitly within sensory somatic means. My client and I foster the relational benefit of the compassionate therapeutic alliance using the power of the creative process with a strength based focus. Our collaborative goal is to resolve the impact of the past; building resiliency, internal wisdom, and self compassion. I am an approved art therapy Supervisor in Maryland.

Although I am classically trained in CBT, DBT, Family Systems, and Solutions Focused, I weave mindfulness and somatic experiences into the therapy session when suitable.
Clients that resonate with my counseling style are open to understanding the relationship between the body and the mind. They are looking to learn skills to control their anxiety, pain, distractibility, or depression and are willing to explore their patterns of behavior within the supportive context of the therapist-client relationship.

We’ll get into your body and OUT of your mind, using somatic techniques such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and meditation.
Your anxiety just won’t go away! Every day you’re plagued with incessant what-ifs and worries about what others think. The constant striving for perfection is exhausting, as is that judgmental voice in your head that keeps telling you what you did wrong or how you’re not enough. You can’t remember the last time you had a full night’s sleep. You have tried everything, and nothing has helped. Your brain just won’t stop, and if someone tells you to “relax” one more time, you’ll lose it.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in internal family systems, somatic therapy, trans-feminism, and DBT to support self-acceptance and liberation.
I believe that all people have their own inherent wisdom and as a counselor, I aim to support clients to embody their truest, most authentic self. I use a non-pathologizing model to support you to identify and understand your individualized needs. I find that understanding, empathy, and collaboration, with a focus on grounding in the here and now develops self compassion and acceptance. Often when we are in pain we have trouble accessing those parts of ourselves. Healing and recovery can happen within a safe and compassionate relationship and I aim to provide that container with you.

Using a unique combination of creative, action-based therapy methods and Somatic Experiencing, I help people make simple adjustments that lead to big impacts in their lives.
I’d like to introduce you to something called your Autonomous Healing Center. It’s the part of you that knows there’s more to life than whatever you're dealing with now—struggling with food, body image, overwhelming feelings that never seem to go away, or a life that’s “just okay”, but isn't really doing it for you. For some of us, the Autonomous Healing Center speaks very quietly or in ways we don’t quite understand. However, it’s also the part that influenced your decision to start looking for a therapist today. So, here’s some good news: you’re already connected with the part of you that knows how to heal. Cool, huh?

Using a blend of somatic practices, creative tools, and gentle movement, I help you address and heal these intimacy injuries, so you can experience the connection and fulfillment you truly deserve.
Are intimacy challenges holding you back from the deep connections you deserve? Whether it's in your relationship with yourself, your partner, or your family, emotional wounds can quietly erode intimacy, leaving you feeling disconnected or unfulfilled. These challenges are often normalized, but healing is possible!

Mental health and relationship issues are all too common and we each have our own unique way of experiencing them. Therapy is a place to realign this weight we carry and build a better relationship with our challenges. I provide a space for this exploration, one where you can get personal and vulnerable, laugh and cry, sometimes even curse and yell, and also informational and straight to the point. Together, we would do this by building trust and learning how our body-mind connection impacts our mental health.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
