In therapy, I use several modalities including relational gestalt, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and somatic awareness techniques.
I believe that each of our lives is an ecosystem, comprised of the interconnecting forces that influence our well-being. This includes our relationships with other people, with cultural and economic forces and even our own bodies. When we are out of balance or suffer trauma, we are often left feeling anxious, depressed or lost. Could you use an ally in making the "ecosystem" of your life more healthy and vibrant? I provide therapy for adults, children, couples, intimate partners and groups.

I specialize in trauma-informed care, focusing on developmental and shock trauma through Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and Inner Child experiential methods.
I work with clients from a trauma-informed, body-centered approach. Whether dealing with addiction, anxiety, depression, or mood disorders, these challenges often stem from developmental or relational trauma stored in the nervous system. Shock trauma can also activate underlying issues that have remained dormant. I collaborate with clients to carefully explore their history and goals, using Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and other somatic modalities to help release trauma, restore balance, and resolve the inner disturbances.

I attended one of the nation's first full Somatic Psychology schools - supporting the body-mind connection via an attachment lens.
It's hard to maintain balance in an intense world. Connecting with a safe, trained professional can help uncover your strengths, resolve trauma, & increase peace. I'm eager to help my clients practice mindful coping, employ a solutions-focus, & attend to/soothe embodied sensations that arise as the wheel of the mind turns. I believe the richest healing unfolds in our therapeutic relationship - where we collaborate, build trust, work through what arises in the moment. As a person-centered psychotherapist, I meet you where you are as you are. Let's talk!

I work in an eclectic way borrowing from a variety of different therapeutic styles with a decidedly psychodynamic lens and somatic focus.
Therapy is a deeply collaborative, relational journey. I work alongside you to help you gain greater awareness and understanding of your experiences, patterns, and feelings so you can make desired changes and move towards personal growth. Primary to this work is my dedication to providing a safe and respectful space for you to explore yourself freely and without judgment. From navigating major life transitions like emerging into adulthood and midlife complexities to working through trauma and depression, I am a compassionate and direct partner on your journey. Curiosity and grace will be the fuel that drive our work together.

I also use somatic tools and mindfulness in my work.
Welcome, I’m glad you’re here! I’m Katrin and I help thoughtful souls and survivors of emotional abuse to find healing, growth, and peace. Do you beat yourself up for not functioning the way you think you “should?” Do you struggle to balance your needs with the demands of modern life? Many people do, and this can lead to depression, anxiety, shame, burnout, and a host of other human conditions that impact emotional well-being. For some, this shows up physically: as sleep changes or chronic pain. For others, it leads to feeling stuck. But for most, there's a sense that there’s a “better” way of functioning in today's world.

My approach to therapy is relational, collaborative, and draws upon narrative, psychodynamic, ACT, inner child/parts work, somatic work, and mindfulness interventions.
Hi, I'm glad you made it. Asking for and finding support is tough, but this is the first step. Tell me, do you find it difficult to stay motivated throughout the day? Are you constantly ruminating on interactions with others, anxious about whether you said or did the "right" thing? Perhaps you spend most of your time and energy worrying about how others perceive you? Or, maybe you struggle to feel deserving to take up space in a conversation or a room full of people? If you identify as a perfectionist, people-pleaser, over-thinker, or struggle with low self-esteem or self-worth, therapy might help cut through some of that noise.

I am certified in the trauma-informed, somatic modality Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, which taps into the power of mindfulness and present moment experience to help shift old patterns.
My philosophy of therapy is encapsulated in the phrase, “To see, to be seen, and to be met.” I work with clients looking to feel better understood by others, and to better understand themselves. Together, we will address your specific issues – and because so many feeling-states such as anxiety and depression are as much felt in the body as in the mind, I like to include the interconnection between body, mind and spirit. A goal of my work to always to expand your sense of flow and connectedness.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
