I specialize in helping individuals work through symptoms of trauma and am trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, somatic experiencing, parts work, deep brain reorienting, and the Meadows Model.
Do you find yourself feeling disconnected? Perhaps you have trouble letting go of the past or setting boundaries with your partner or other family members. Maybe you can’t stop thinking about your childhood or problems with your current relationships. Many people I’ve worked with responded to overwhelming experiences by disconnecting from their body, which led to problems like anxiety, traumatic-stress, and depression. I have helped many individuals navigate through these and similar challenges. It may feel like your life will always be a struggle, but it doesn’t have to be. You deserve help and support as you move forward.

My areas of additional training include: Somatic Experience- Intermediate, Compassion Bereavement Care Provider, Safe Sound Protocol.
At times we are faced with circumstances that feel painful & unfair. You have grief over the loss of an important person, yet others tell you, “it was their time” instead of offering condolences. You’re grieving the loss of a loved pet and people say, “it’s just a cat” or “you can always get another dog” completely dismissing the relationship you had with your companion. If you have been through trauma, you can begin to question everything you once believed in, trying to make sense of your world. We all need support to grow through what we go through. My role can be to walk the journey with you so that you don’t have to go it alone.

I utilize Somatic Experiencing to support connection and healing in the body.
Whole Hearts Counseling provides compassionate and strength-based therapy to support you in living life wholeheartedly. Many of my clients have been very diligent in their healing process and have explored a wide array of services from yoga to acupuncture and everything between! Though they have experienced some sense of “better”, they do not feel entirely whole or fully settled in their bodies. With compassion and humor (Yes, humor! We are allowed to have fun on this journey of healing), we begin to explore with curiosity what may be blocking the ability for you to shift into greater connection with self and others.

I believe in treating the mind, body, and spirit and integrate various modalities including Somatic Experiencing, CBT, and spiritual and mindfulness practices.
Are past traumas and negative beliefs about yourself preventing you from living the life you want? Do you find yourself struggling to develop and maintain intimate, meaningful relationships? Maybe you are struggling with addictive behaviors to cope with feelings of stress and overwhelm? You may feel hopeless and confused, not understanding why you can't stop. I can help. Addictive and self destructive behaviors are signs we are looking outside of ourselves for safety and comfort. I believe healing comes from within and strive to create a compassionate space for you to confront your struggles and find recovery and healing.

I enjoy helping people of all ages improve their self-esteem, build confidence, establish healthy boundaries, and heal attachment wounds in order to live their most comfortable, authentic lives. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques including narrative therapy, IFS "parts work", and a blend of cognitive and somatic techniques to explore the ways in which past and present issues are causing internal conflicts and contributing to stress, overwhelm, depression, and anxiety. My therapeutic approach is conversational and interpersonal; I embrace imperfection and authenticity in order to see the good in all humans.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
