We're supposed to drink enough water, get enough sleep, exercise, save money, make money, work hard while having work/life balance, be a great spouse/parent/sibling/child, travel more...the list is endless. We are taught to engage life at a grueling and intense pace that is becoming increasingly difficult in the backdrop of a tumultuous world in crisis. I don't view mental health in a vacuum; sometimes depression and anxiety are appropriate and healthy responses to stressful and unprecedented life events. I teach solution-oriented skills to address feelings, improve communication and live in a healthy way that honors your humanity.

You've been thinking too much, unable to resolve the problems you're facing. It feels like the more you think, the worse you feel. You hate feeling this way and know something needs to change. You're ready to find solutions that work. I help motivated, insightful adults overcome their current situations and live a life worth living.

We assume that childhood is a carefree happy time but for some children and teens, anxiety robs them of this joy. If your child can't sleep alone, is afraid to try new things or can't tolerate mistakes, they may be struggling with anxiety. If your teen avoids social events, struggles to go to school or worries incessantly about other's opinions, their worries may be overwhelming them. Even overachievers who look like they have everything under control may be stressed by their perfectionism or need to please others. Some kids develop rituals in response to obsessions or compulsions. If this sounds like your child, I can help!

There are many symptoms that can indicate that a nervous system is having a stress reaction, such as stress/anxiety, insomnia, sleep regulation, depression, headaches/migraines, brain injuries, memory and focus, and mood disorders.
As a Counselor, I will work hard to help clients gain insight into both past and present experiences in order to empower themselves to make informed choices that lead to meaningful change. Talk therapy can be either in-person or online. I will accommodate what is most comfortable for my clients. I also offer Neurofeedback in my practice. Neurofeedback is a brain training technique that has been shown to be safe and effective for over 30 years. It is a form of biofeedback that offers the brain information about its own electrical activity, which has a profound impact on an individual's stress response.

Feel overwhelmed or anxious or like your mind is racing? Fear ever grip your chest? Your mind keeps looping on the same thoughts, fears, or upsetting memories. You can’t get a good night’s sleep, and you feel irritable, on-edge, or not-in-control. That critical voice in your head won’t shut up and often brings its friends – worry, panic, anger, guilt, and shame. Right now, life doesn’t look or feel the way you want it to. You wonder ‘What the hell is wrong with me? How can I fix this?’ You just want a way to quiet the chaos, move past painful experiences, and get back to the things that are most important to you in life.

Most often, I work with adults, young adults, adolescents, and children dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, life transitions, sleep difficulties, motivational challenges, identity concerns, and/or relationship issues.
I take an active, collaborative, client-centered approach to therapy. I bring considerable expertise in evidence-based practices – techniques that we know work, based on decades of research – while treating YOU as the expert on your life and experiences. We work as a team to clarify what matters most to you, identify the obstacles getting in your way, and develop the skills you need to overcome them. Beyond alleviating psychological suffering and pain, my goal is to empower clients to build rich, meaningful lives and relationships.

I have taken classes in Health Coaching, the Enneagram, Meditation, Cultural Competence, and CBT for Insomnia.
It may seem like everyone is happy in the spring and summer, but that’s not always the case. You may have happy times, and also have moments of fear or doubt, sadness or anxiety. In therapy, you can learn new ways of dealing with relationship or emotional issues, and create new healthy habits. If you are feeling stressed or anxious, I have lots of effective and easy anxiety coping techniques to share. Whether you need just a few sessions or longer term counseling, I am here to help.

Life is a funny thing. And often terribly complicated. During our journey in this world, we often face challenges that can feel too big or ongoing. Whether it’s with chronic feelings of anxiousness, depression, emptiness, issues about sexual orientation, gender, or ethnicity, relationship conflict, sleep disturbances, substance misuse, school or work issues, or any combination of those, many of us struggle silently. But you don't have to. It can help to work with a therapist with a deep understanding of what it’s like with some of those struggles and who is passionate about helping others learn to thrive despite these adversities.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
