I know what it's like to feel too shy to make friends or express myself openly, to lose sleep to insomnia, or to struggle with depression.
Are you looking to discover greater vitality and joy in your life? I have found great satisfaction in my work helping people discover what blocks their natural "aliveness." I enjoy working with anyone who is looking to grow and make changes. I work hard to understand my clients, which helps them more deeply understand themselves and their relationship to the world around them. Then we work together to address thoughts and beliefs that interfere with being fully alive.

I specialize in eating disorders, body image, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, and sleep difficulties.
Asking for help can be difficult especially when you pride yourself for being an independent person. When the uncontrollable aspects of life emerge and stick around it can often lead to feeling out of control, stuck, or unproductive even for someone that is usually successful. The truth is that life happens no matter the best of our own intentions and that is where I can work with you to reclaim your ideal life and achieve your goals.

Insomnia is a disorder that touches every aspect of a person's life. There's nothing more miserable than struggling to sleep, which seems like it should be so natural and easy. Then, during the day, you wonder why, if you're so tired, is it so hard to sleep at night? It is possible to get sufficient high-quality sleep without the use of medication. Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia (CBT-I) has been recommended as the first line of treatment for chronic insomnia, and I have seen it work in clients from age 15 up to 90+.

Living a full, purposeful, powerful life feels out of reach sometimes. Obstacles can get in our way and stop us. Life can be interrupted by poor sleep, chronic health issues, or by accidents or health conditions that led to reduced cognitive skills. These conditions can create real stressors, anxiety, depression or reduced ability to cope with the demands of modern living. Your well-being is of the upmost importance to me. Your ability to embrace your life and find joy and creativity can be rekindled despite your circumstances. If you are concerned about your cognitive skills, I can help you find solutions and work arounds.

Hi, I’m Dr. Cabrera. I specialize in helping working women who are struggling with anxiety and depression. Too many women experience waves of sadness, racing thoughts that seem uncontrollable, and disrupted sleep. On top of that, some may feel a sense of isolation and loneliness or the overwhelming sensation that they can't cope with the challenges of the day. These emotions are frequently linked to anxiety and depression. The encouraging news, however, is that you don’t have to keep living perpetually trapped by these feelings. There is effective treatment available!

There are times when the pain and discomfort have no words. If the things that you used to love no longer bring you joy, or you can't seem to shake that dark cloud, I can help. If your sleep is out of sync and you feel nothing but fatigue, I can help. Together we can rediscover what it means to be you. Together we can finally rid you of that inexplicable sadness and/or hopelessness, the anger, the intrusive thoughts, the nagging worry, and integrate all progress that you have made. You can rediscover your sense of self.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
