The pregnant and postpartum periods are life changing and can be beautiful. However, they are also incredibly complex, can extend well beyond the first year after birth, and can present challenges that are different from anything else. The symptoms and diagnoses that accompany this life stage are unique, but entirely curable with help from a specially trained therapist. My specialty is perinatal (“around birth,” or the pregnant and postpartum periods) mental health, which includes perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), perinatal grief and loss, and birth trauma.
I am also a trauma specialist with a well-rounded understanding of direct trauma, generational trauma, and the wounding that leads to trauma symptoms and diagnoses. In the same way that trauma can alter a person’s life, treatment can heal it.
When working on trauma, I use a range of person-specific treatment methods including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), relational therapy, and building on coping skills to use when trauma symptoms flare. I am also trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and enjoy working with both adults and adolescents.
