I have a few types of clients that I would like to work with. A youth client who is experiencing ADHD. A few goals may be to improve organization skills, grades, and on-task behavior. These goals may be important to the youth because they may need support with developing a daily schedule and organization skills to assist with focus. Another ideal client may be an adult who is looking to improve self-esteem to accomplish life goals. The adult may need support dealing with past traumas. This may be important to them because they want to improve for themselves.
As a team, we would work on communicating needs for extra time or help with teachers and parents. This would help the youth build confidence and a support system that will help them to become more successful. I believe that in addition to mental health counseling, participating in physical activities is a great way to improve mental health.
I believe that you don’t know what you can do until you try, and that includes our mental health as well. Often overlooked and swept under the rug, our mental health issues are swept under the rug. We have to tell ourselves that we are worth it, and that includes living a healthy life physically, socially, and mentally.
