I believe in trying differently, rather than harder. Parenting children who are neurodivergent (ADHD, FASD, Autism, Developmental Trauma) can be overwhelming, especially if a parent is too! Children can struggle with healthy attachment, viewing every person and situation through a "survival' lens of distrust, often engaging in undesirable behavior to try to establish feeling in control, safe, and connected. They may struggle with processing and verbalizing or emotional regulation. Parents may struggle with regulation and connection in the face of challenging behavior. We all do well when we have the necessary skills to do so!
Registered Play Therapist, Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional and Certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I can assist parents to shift their understanding of their child's behavior and help children learn to feel safe and connected so they can be successful.
I have lived experience as someone with ADHD! I get it and understand the challenges! Connection has been found to be the most important component for a child to feel safe, secure and able to fully trust their caregiver. Connection occurs through our nervous systems, words and actions. ADHD, FASD, Autism and Trauma can make this more complicated. I can help!
